Today MARS and partners explore requirements and possibilities with the Danish Defence/Navy. Interesting talks about autonomy/remote control, dual-use, tasks which can be solved with autonomy and compliance with regulations. Lots of new ground to cover and interesting perspectives for business, academia and education. New team member alert! ⏰ Daman Yang has joined the team as our Systems and Applications engineer. Hailing from Taichung, Taiwan, Daman is a recent graduate of Northeastern University where he discovered his passion for mechatronics and designing systems. ➡ When he’s not tackling complex challenges, Daman enjoys biking and testing out new hot sauces for his culinary adventures. (Personally, Admin is a #Cholula fan, but that’s neither here nor there.) Please give Daman a warm Sea Machines Welcome! 👏 #NewHire #Tech #Maritime #Boston

✨ Throwback to a lovely day out on the water with the State University of New York Maritime College cadets. ✨ It’s always great to be able to share the next generation of maritime tech with the next generation of mariners. ➡ As autonomy becomes increasingly vital in maritime operations, it's essential that the training of young mariners evolves to reflect this shift. Do you agree? ⁉ #Maritime #Autonomy #SUNY #Boston

Eyes in the sky at sea from miles away: Combining TeUAS with sUSVs Tethered drones, or Tethered Unmanned Aircraft Systems (TeUAS), offer the high vantage point of a drone with the added benefit of extended operational time thanks to their power supply. Combine a TeUAS with a Small Unmanned Surface Vehicle (sUSV) like SELKIE and the sky is the limit. Read more in our blog in the comments! 🔗

Thermal Camera + Man Overboard = Better SAR During Man Overboard training and drills at Massachusetts Maritime Academy, I was taught that in a man overboard situation it is crucial to maintain visual contact until rescue is complete. This is because it is THAT easy to lose sight of a target in the water. Last year, Sea Machines Robotics took part in a drill with the U.S. Coast Guard where our test boat, Maverick, was stationed to detect man overboard victims using our Computer Vision Sensor, AI-ris. With AI-ris' thermal camera, we easily spotted the heat pack strapped to the dummy’s forehead (No, we didn’t have anyone jump overboard—this was November in Boston!). To me, this is the epitome of why we develop technology: to improve the success rate in critical moments and streamline day-to-day operations. Now that we’ve launched our own autonomous vessel, SELKIE, the possibilities for SAR with SELKIE and AI-ris combined are truly next level. Cool, right?!

2 boats sailing, 0 captains on board. Whaaaaat? Collaborative following is a feature of our SM300 Autonomous Command and Control that allows you to lock one or more vessels to the signal of an autonomous mothership, allowing them to move in tandem. In the screen capture of our UI below, the daughter craft is set to follow behind the mothership. You can easily customize the position and distance between the vessels, allowing them to move in tandem exactly as you need. This means twice the coverage for half the effort. Nifty, right?! #Autonomy #Unmanned #UnmannedVessel #USV #Maritime #Tech
