Making education more equitable. 🎓 Since 2009, we've donated more than 10,000 desktops, laptops, and monitors to the Computers for Student Success at Tidewater Community College. Investing in our future, one resident at a time! 🏥🌱 We're embarking on a major expansion of our residency program to address the nationwide physician shortage and strengthen our local healthcare workforce. Over the next six years, we will nearly double Sentara's residency positions, expand the specialty training programs offered, and introduce new residency programs at four Sentara hospitals in Virginia and North Carolina. “We believe strongly that if we train more physicians locally in our markets, we’re more likely to keep physicians locally in our markets,” said Michael Hooper, M.D., vice president and chief academic officer. Meet 'Leo,' the newest member of Sentara Albemarle Medical Center's surgical team. 🤖 The team recently welcomed a da Vinci surgical robotic system and offered local middle school students the chance to name the technology. Leo was the winning name, which will make the new technology less intimidating for patients and our community. More than 50 guests came to meet Leo during our community open house. Guests got to try out the surgical robot and see demonstrations from our experts. Leo will take a road trip to the new Sentara Albemarle Regional Health Campus when the new hospital opens next year. This $2 million investment in cutting-edge technology is a testament to Sentara's commitment to our community. Thanks to Leo's precision in tiny incisions, patients will experience less invasive procedures with faster recovery times. #ImprovingHealth #community
