How can CO2 be used in the future so that it does not harm the climate in the long term and is utilized in valuable products? Our vision at sequestra is the permanent binding of CO2 in mineral materials that are then used as sustainable secondary resources in the construction industry. This vision is now also shared by the European Commission! The delegated act, which was published on 30 July 2024 lists the products in which CO2 from industrial waste gases can be reused, so that the emitting companies are exempt from the CO2 penalty payments within the legal framework of the EU Emission Trading System (ETS) -> link in comments. The list only includes mineral materials in which CO2 is permanently bound and thus safely stored for several hundred years. At sequestra, we are developing technologies for precisely this purpose. With our patented process, we want to become a global pioneer in the field of CO2 carbonation in order to make residual materials permanently usable as CO2 sinks and to upcycle them as valuable substitutes for primary resources in the construction industry. Our widely applicable technology aims to unleash the global mitigation potential of 4 Gt CO2 in numerous industrial branches, creating a new market worth € 600 Bn by 2030.
