Serenity Healthcare reposted this
It has been a while since I have posted. After a couple years away from treating patients with eating disorders - I have landed back in the outpatient world at Serenity Healthcare in Gilbert, Arizona. I have a lot of thoughts from when I decided to leave outpatient care a couple years ago, my time away, and my returning to this space. The most pertinent thought, to me, is that psychiatry has an important role on the team for those who have eating disorders. However, medications have had their limitations - true, for some they have been an integral part of their care, but for many it left them still searching for better results, more help to ease their burden and truly help on their journey to take their life back. Over the past couple years, I have had a lot of experience with neuromodulation (specifically rTMS) and Ketamine. I have been following the research on neuromodulation and psychedelics in the eating disorder space. Two recent meta-analyses by Wu, et al 2024 and Longo, et al 2025 have shown there is definitely a space for rTMS while treating eating disorders. More research and understanding needs to take place, and I am happy to be a part of that march forward. I have rejuvenated enthusiasm for the hope I can provide this community. Patients of all types, and especially those with eating disorders, deserve all the adjunct treatments that are available. I am happy to offer TMS and Ketamine to this population as I have seen its benefits, time after time.
