A non-profit paving the way for more women to lead at every level of marketing, media and tech.

About us

We have been invested in women’s leadership since we were first organized more than 100 years ago and ultimately became Advertising Women of New York (AWNY). We changed our name to She Runs It in 2016 because as the industry evolved, it became evident that our community encompassed far more than just advertising, and was far broader than just New York. Today we are a global organization with members in 42 states and 8 countries. When we started, we wanted to give more women a seat at the table. Now, we want to see more women at the head of the table. The reason is simple. Women are proven leaders. Women motivate. Innovate. Today, women run companies. Communities. Countries. They are growth-oriented leaders, and focus on steady, sustainable growth. Women are good for business. Companies with more women as leaders are also more financially successful. More socially responsible. And that’s good for everyone. Which is why we bring together both women and men who want to build the world we want to live in. A world where women lead at every level. · Where she runs businesses. · She runs departments. · She runs accounts. · She runs projects. · She runs her career. · She runs her life. · She runs it.

In this month's newsletter, our CEO, Lynn Branigan, thoughtfully speaks about how important it is to hold onto hope. As we await the outcome of this election, our community—indeed, our nation—holds its collective breath, caught between hope and worry. If you’re among those feeling this tension, here’s what we can do together: 1. Vote: If you haven’t already, exercise your right. Your voice is essential to shaping the future. Every vote counts in creating the world we want to live in. 2. Stay Focused on Our Mission: No matter the results, our commitment to advancing women in marketing, media, and technology will remain unwavering. We’ll continue to champion all women, regardless of background, ethnicity, or identity, to lead at every level. 3. Keep Working: Progress doesn’t hinge on one election cycle. The journey for equality is a testament to resilience and an unbreakable spirit. Together, we’ll write the next chapter, built on empowerment and the pursuit of fairness. To the women in our industry and community: your presence is vital. You bring fresh perspectives, real impact, and meaningful change. From boardrooms to communities, your influence matters. Remember: our resolve is not fragile. She Runs It will keep amplifying voices, lifting each other up, and pushing for equality. As a member of our Operating Board reminded us: “No matter who wins the election, She Still Runs It." Subscribe to our newsletter for more insighful messages and visit our website to learn more about our memberships and what we are doing to to empower leaders in marketing, media, and tech industried. #SheRunsIt #WomenInLeadership #Vote #Resilience #TogetherWeRise

DEI is a business imperative, essential in an industry that connects brands to an increasingly diverse consumer population. She Runs It and Seramount have announced results of the new Marketing, Media, and Adtech Inclusion Index, based on six years of measurement and dialogue from #Inclusive100. She Runs It invested in the industry specific survey to surface best practices on inclusion, representation, and culture … measuring progress and shaping a playbook for companies who want to stay true to their DEI commitments (and their clients and customers). A few highlights from the report: - Women still comprise half of our industry and are rising to the C-suite in higher numbers than before - The industry is hiring Black talent at a rate commensurate to population numbers (14%), but we are losing them at an almost equal rate - Marketers are making DEI a priority in the RFP process, and the industry is listening - Contrary to headlines, DEI commitment is not waning in our industry Read the full report on the She Runs It website: https://lnkd.in/gXsWwhwq. And check out the ADWEEK article here: https://lnkd.in/gHDQafbt A special shout out to the 20 companies who indexed in the study, meaning they received a score of 60% or greater on the survey. Congratulations! What gets measured gets done! https://lnkd.in/gPvXhsv9

Inspiring inclusion is essential. We must champion and sponsor women as leaders, raise awareness of their pivotal role in building successful businesses, and commit to mentoring, advocating, educating, and empowering. However, without measurement, we cannot fully understand the impact of our efforts. That’s why She Runs It has partnered with Seramount to develop and fund the new Marketing, Media, and Adtech Inclusion Index survey, driving greater awareness and transforming how companies approach DEI.
