Career Experiences and Internship Specialist | San Jose State University | Lead With Innovation

I couldn’t have had a better experience at the first ever LCOB Carnival School Year Finale! I’m truly humbled to have won the SJSU College of Business All Around Outstanding Student Award alongside Hector Gonzales who won the All Around Outstanding Alumni Award and Jessica Te, MBA who won Outstanding Alumni of Graduation within One Year. I’m super proud of my team with SJSU GBSA for taking home the Outstanding Mentorship Initiatives Award. Shoutout to Truc Tran for winning GBSA Outstanding Student and John Duarte for being GBSA’s honorable student leader. None of this year’s success would have been possible without you two and the contributions of other graduate business students like Yasmine Taghi, Andrew Cormier, Brisia Martinez, and Jessica Randev. Of course huge thank you to our incredible faculty advisor, David Czerwinski. This event was a huge project and a lot of people stepped up to make it possible including Dean Rangapriya (Priya) Kannan who guided our planning process and believed in us students to turn this into a reality. Thank you to Shambhavi S. and Lasya Reddy Kotha from SJSU Women in Business for your incredible event management skills and hyper productive mindsets that made the fun of this event possible. It’s been amazing working with Charvi Choudhary and Kim Nguyen from the SJSU Marketing Association. You all used your marketing skills to bring so much hype to this event for a great turnout. And of course we can’t forget about Jesse Flaris who filmed and edited our LCOB Star Wars Movie. It was a great experience to work with Isabel Perez and Alexandra Phan from SHRM at SJSU. Thank you for using your HR skills to keep operations organized behind the scenes and configure our award/recognition process. Props to Jasmine Alvarado and the Latino Business Student Association - San Jose State University for using your powerful community building skills to engage alumni in this event. It was great meeting you Sean O. from Financial Management Association of SJSU. You really pulled through to help execute the event and keep things moving smoothly. Things looked bleak with the rain, but Bobbi Makani-Lim from the SJSU Career Center stepped in to save the day reserving the gym last minute for us. Achieving something great often seems like it’s very far away, but this experience taught me that everything you need to be successful and everything you could ever need to be an amazing leader is already standing right in front of me at San Jose State University. Thanks again to everyone! This has definitely been my highlight experience as a student at SJSU! Lucas College and Graduate School of Business at SJSU

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated in our Interview Prep workshop with Amazon! A special thank you goes out to our wonderful speaker, Rebecca Breasher, Sr. Program Manager for generously imparting her insights and discussing her roles and responsibilities at Amazon. She gave us tips and pointers on all aspects of interviewing including, preparation, interview etiquette, and what to look for in an interview. Preparation is essential for interview success. Research the company's career page, especially focusing on the relevant division, and understand why you're interested in working for them. Utilize resources like Glassdoor for interview questions but take them with a grain of salt. Prepare examples using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to showcase your experiences effectively. Maintain proper interview etiquette to leave a positive impression. Arrive 5-10 minutes early, pause before answering questions, and always ask questions at the end tailored to the job description. In-person interviews require attention to details such as handshakes, eye contact, and presenting a professional resume/portfolio. Understand the interview process, typically involving an initial application, recruiter call, introductory interview with a hiring manager, and final interview with the team. Interviewers seek both hard and soft skills. Highlight hard skills like platform knowledge, and data analysis, and soft skills such as stakeholder management and confidence. Keep a record of accomplishments for example, review interviewers' profiles on LinkedIn, and craft a concise "Tell me about yourself" pitch. Most importantly, remain engaged, take your time with examples, and always ask questions proactively. Thank you for joining us in this eye-opening experience. Stay tuned for more valuable insights and opportunities coming soon!

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who joined us for our recent workshop featuring the insightful Carmen Perry. A special thanks to Carmen Perry, ACC for her invaluable contributions and enlightening perspectives. Carmen shed light on how internal saboteurs can obstruct personal growth, emphasizing the significance of self-reflection in assessing their impact accurately. During the event, we formed groups centered around predominant saboteurs, delving deep into the emotions and self-deception associated with them. This exercise underscored the importance of acknowledging and confronting these inner barriers to regain control over our lives. The key insights emphasized the idea that our greatest obstacle often originates within ourselves. Carmen Perry highlighted the empowerment in recognizing our ability to shape our decisions and take control of our lives, regardless of the internal barriers we may face. Thank you for being part of this enlightening experience; stay tuned for more enriching insights and opportunities on the way!
