Health outcomes are shaped by more than what happens in a clinical setting; social factors like economic instability, living conditions, and access to education play a critical role. Our latest blog post discusses how data aggregation can help identify social factors in individual patients and unearth SDOH influences that are prevalent in specific populations. These datasets support more equitable care across populations by helping providers understand the factors contributing to health disparities. Learn how healthcare data aggregation drives equitable care and improved outcomes in our latest blog post: How to Transform Patient Care with Data Aggregation https://lnkd.in/gFgMnXHr

Children have a more than 50% increased chance of obesity if they live in a place without ready access to full-fledged grocery stores stocked with fresh and healthy foods, according to a new study in JAMA. Researchers examined data from nearly 30,000 U.S. children and found that 23% had mothers who, while pregnant with them, lived in a food desert. Additionally, nearly 25% of the kids lived in neighborhoods with limited access to healthy food during early childhood. U.S. News & World Report has more on how the Social Determinants of Health can negatively impact children from their earliest years well into adulthood. https://lnkd.in/gR7WntpG

During the unwinding of the Medicaid continuous enrollment provision, more than 25 million people were disenrolled and five states – Montana, Utah, Idaho, Oklahoma and Texas – have disrenrollment rates greater than 50%, according to a new KFF analysis. Despite millions of disenrollments, nearly 10 million more people nationally are currently enrolled in Medicaid/CHIP than at the start of the pandemic. According to the analysis, the net growth in Medicaid enrollment can likely be attributed to increased awareness, improved renewal processes and expanded eligibility for certain groups. https://lnkd.in/gTUNF3Bg

U.S. employers expect health insurance costs to rise by an average of 5.8% in 2025, according to a new survey released by Mercer. It is projected to be the third consecutive year in which healthcare costs for employers rise by more than 5% after averaging 3% during the decade prior. The report’s analysis concludes rising costs are largely due to increased cost of medical services as well as higher use. More than 53% of employers plan on cost-management changes in 2025, including implementing initiatives and strategies to reduce utilization by plan members with expensive and chronic conditions. https://lnkd.in/gheQDXPY

Medicare Advantage bonus payments increased by more than 400% between 2015 and 2023, but a new KFF analysis finds that federal spending bonus payments will decrease by approximately $1 billion from last year. Experts believe the decrease is tied to a decline in Medicare Advantage plan star ratings that followed the expiration of COVID-19 pandemic-era policies. Bonus payments are highest for employer-sponsored Medicare Advantage plans, which tend to provide health benefits to higher income beneficiaries, and lowest for special needs plans, which enroll higher need and more vulnerable beneficiaries, raising questions about the implications for equity. Check out the new analysis for more about trends in bonus payments, how these measures vary across plan types and firms, and why vulnerable populations must be better supported moving forward. #MedicareAdvantage #SDoH #HealthEquity #MAStars https://lnkd.in/gTM8J4dd
