"Creating a successful senior design project: lessons learned across ten years of teaching" is available on the SPIE Digital Library. Thank you to Benjamin Cromey, Ian Carr, and Mike Nofziger for sharing their perspectives in this valuable presentation!
It’s always exciting to publish something but this particular paper was really unique and special to me. Ian Carr, Dr. Mike and I in our own personal time worked to codify ten years of lessons learned in teaching senior design capstone courses at the University of Arizona in this publication. We walk through our philosophy for how to write and sponsor a great project, examined three years of projects to give an idea of what students and sponsors can expect, and shared a long list of common pitfalls that teams stuggle with. We genuinely hope this paper is useful for students, educators, and other companies that sponsor projects. And if you’re in the last category, and you *don’t* sponsor senior design projects right now, you should! It’s a fantastic recruiting opportunity at a low cost, and a whole lot of fun to help these students learn to be better engineers. Check out the paper below for advice on how to get started! Special thanks to the education conference at SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics for making space for us to publish and present this work back in August. #students #educators #capstone #industry #sponsors #education #receuiting #puplication #spie https://lnkd.in/gDQNrgGR
