Our partner, Alan Pullman, invites you to join us for a delightful conversation in the garden of his historic Kimpson-Nixon House, designed by Raphael Soriano in 1940. Organized by FORT LA (Friends of Residential Treasures Los Angeles), this event offers a unique opportunity to explore an architectural gem while enjoying light snacks and refreshments. The event will feature a discussion with Alan and Soriano scholar Wolfgang Wagener, moderated by Frances Anderton. Mark your calendars for August 10th, 10am - 11:30am. About us
Located in downtown Long Beach and Los Angeles California, Studio One Eleven is an integrated practice of architecture, landscape, and urban design dedicated to creating vibrant communities. From master plans to individual buildings, each endeavor aims at making a more humane and sustainable urban whole. We believe that the purpose of architecture is the making of the City. From the geography of the region to the disposition of blocks and buildings, every urban component has an interdependent relationship with all others. We view every project as an opportunity to physically enhance the urban context that sustains it. In contrast to an 'architecture of time', ours is an 'architecture of place'. Our designs are not predicated by a singular language, but are inspired through the careful assessment of the history, climate, culture and context of the place where they stand. We believe that the best way to improve the future of a place is to understand its past, patterns and precedents.

Delighted to announce that Watts Works has won in the Circular Design category at Fast Company’s 2024 Innovation by Design Awards! By reusing shipping containers, we reduced CO2 emissions by 12.4 tons. If fabricated locally, we could have saved an additional 69.4 tons. Watts Works was also featured as one of three global case studies on circular building by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and presented at COP 26 in Glasgow. We’ll be picking up our award at the Innovation by Design festival in September in New York City! What should the future of Downtown Shoreline be? In June, we hosted a multi-day, hands-on planning charrette for the Long Beach community to help envision the future of the downtown waterfront. Here’s the video of the highlights from #LBTV! The charrette, in partnership with PlaceWorks and City of Long Beach included several focused forums to discuss issues related to the waterfront, a community open house, walking and biking tours, as well as a roundtable meeting of the community roundtable selected to advise on the Shoreline Vision. Materials from the charrette are now also available online and further community input can be provided till the end of July. Check it out on the charrette website and share your thoughts at https://lnkd.in/et5i6Eym https://lnkd.in/eYzFGhXG

Thanks Brian Addison for this shoutout! Looking forward to a lively discussion with Kiana Wenzell and Angela Katsaros Anthony next Thursday evening at studio one eleven.
DTLB has long been the hub of everything design, from architecture and art to walking tours and history. So that is why studio one eleven is proposing that the neighborhood gets a formally sanctioned design district that invites creatives to expound on that creativity. And in some senses—including the upcoming DTLB Art Walk—they are already doing that.
