As Breast Cancer Awareness Month draws to a close, we are proud to spotlight another member of our Oncology team, Susan Therien, LSW, MBA. With 37 years of dedicated service at Sturdy Health, Susan has been a beacon of hope for oncology patients during some of their most challenging moments. As a social worker, she helps navigate barriers to care, from transportation and food assistance to connecting patients with essential community resources. Susan provides not only emotional support throughout treatment but also facilitates support groups that foster peer connections and education. Susan shares, "My favorite part of my job is knowing that I can make a difference for vulnerable, frightened patients at a very overwhelming time in their lives. I know that while I can't solve all their problems, I may be able to make small impacts that will ease some of the strife they face in their lives."

October is SIDS Awareness Month, and Sturdy Health is committed to promoting safe sleep practices to protect our littlest patients. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is the leading cause of death in infants between 1 month and 1 year old. Every year, too many families are impacted by this devastating loss. Together, we can reduce the risk by following these safe sleep guidelines and protect our little ones: Place babies on their backs to sleep Use a firm sleep surface Keep the crib free of soft toys and loose bedding Avoid smoking around infants Let’s work together to create a safer environment for babies, spread the word and empower parents with knowledge. Together, we can create safer sleep environments and help reduce the risk of SIDS. #SIDSAwareness #SIDSAwarenessMonth
