The mission of Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet is to man, train, and equip the Surface Force to provide fleet commanders with credible naval power to control the sea and project power ashore. CNSP delivers and sustains the full spectrum of balanced, affordable, and resilient naval power through manpower, training, and equipment. As Commander, Naval Surface Forces (CNSF), CNSF leads Surface Warfare policy with a fleet-focused perspective and develops the professional expertise of surface warfare officers. - Permitted Content.     ✏️The 2024 General Prize Essay Contest—the Naval Institute’s oldest and most prestigious—is open for entries📝 The contest is open to all contributors—active-duty military, reservists, and veterans, both officer and enlisted, as well as civilians and academics. Essays may address any topic, although the attached flyer offers a few ideas that authors are welcome to consider. The three top essays will be published in the March Naval Review issue of Proceedings. In addition, there is a total of $11,000 in cash awards for the three winning authors, as well as recognition at the Naval Institute Annual Meeting. Eligibility: Open to all Guidelines: 3,000-word maximum (excluding endnotes) Include word count (but no author names) on title page. Submit Word document at www.usni.org/genessay Essays must be original and not previously published. Deadline: 31 October 2024

    ⚓ USS Oscar Austin, Arriving 🌍 The Arleigh-Burke class guided-missile destroyer USS Oscar Austin (DDG 79) arrives to Naval Station (NAVSTA) Rota, Spain, completing its homeport shift to the installation from NAVSTA Norfolk, Va. Oscar Austin is the first of two additional DDGs to join the Forward Deployed Naval Force-Europe (FDNF-E) force.

    ⚓ Surface Warriors of the USS O'Kane Strengthen Ties with Allies 🌏 The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS O'Kane (DDG 77) recently visited Karachi, Pakistan. The ship also went to sea and conducted training and a passing exercise with our Pakistani partners, further strengthening interoperability in the region. Bravo Zulu, Surface Warriors!

    #ICYMI: Surface Warriors of the USS Germantown Returned to San Diego After Participation in Major Multinational Exercises ⚓🌎🇺🇸 The Whidbey Island-class amphibious dock landing ship USS Germantown (LSD 42) returned to Naval Base San Diego in early October. Germantown, assigned to Commander, U.S. 3rd Fleet, returned to homeport after participating in major exercises in South America. Vice Adm. Brendan McLane, commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet welcomed the crew home. He also presented challenge coins to Boatswain's Mate Seaman Apprentice Jesmay Cordova, Electrician's Mate 1st Class Julia Balbuena, and Marine Sergeant Beyene.

    ⚓ Surface Warriors of the USS Russell Return Home After Eight Months ⌛ Families and friends welcomed the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Russell (DDG 59) during the ship’s homecoming ceremony at Naval Base San Diego, following an eight-month deployment. The Russell departed San Diego in February, and joined the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group in the Commander, U.S. 3rd Fleet, U.S. Fifth Fleet, and United States Seventh Fleet areas of operation to conduct global maritime security operations supporting regional stability.     Defining today’s warfighter. 💪⚓️ Cmdr. Shelby Nikitin discusses her deployment in command of USS Thomas Hudner (DDG 116) in 2023. While in the Red Sea, USS Thomas Hudner engaged and destroyed multiple one-way attack unmanned aerial vehicles. The Arleigh-Burke class guided-missile destroyer deployed as part of Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 12, Gerald R. Ford CSG. During the deployment, USS Thomas Hudner operated throughout the Mediterranean and Red Sea regions, deterring aggression as part of CSG 12’s mission to support Israel in its right to self-defense and to deter malign actors from furthering the Israel-Hamas conflict. #navy249 #usnavy #leadership
