As World Water Week 2024 comes to an end in Stockholm, I share my top 3 learnings from all our colleagues who speak #water: 1️⃣ Voluntary disclosure in water management benefits both companies and the community by promoting sustainable water use and enhancing understanding of environmental impacts. It helps entities change behavior, strategize to meet commitments and improve data collection. Starting with fewer KPIs allows for better tracking and gradual progress. 2️⃣ Satellite data enhances preparedness for extreme events, accelerates operational decisions and responses, simplifies, and reduces the cost of data collection, and improves transparency and accountability in water planning. It supports local data, but validation is necessary to effectively address water problems. 3️⃣ Collective action in a reliable and trustworthy context is crucial as unpredictability challenges sustainable financing. Long-term financing is essential for creating conditions that ensure water security. These insights underscore the growing complexity of water management and planning, the increasing need for standardized metrics to monitor and evaluate intervention impacts, and the critical importance of understanding the financial consequences of unpreparedness.
