About us

The Symbiosis Coalition aims to facilitate an advance market commitment (AMC) of up to 20 million tons of nature-based carbon removal credits. While only a fraction of the world's total carbon removal goals, this is the first and largest AMC ever for nature-based carbon removal, equivalent in volume to the 2030 carbon removal goals of the state of California.

  • 🌱 The first Symbiosis RFP is now live! 🌳  Our first RFP focuses on reforestation and agroforestry projects and is a pivotal milestone to translate our commitment to contract for up to 20 million tonnes of high-quality nature-based carbon removal credits into action. 📈 This RFP reflects months of work and input from developers, experts, scientists, buyers, NGOs, investors, standard bodies, and other stakeholders from across the ecosystem. We designed the process to lower barriers to entry for developers by streamlining access to multiple buyers at once while implementing a best-in-class diligence approach to rigorously evaluate project alignment with our Quality Criteria (link in comments). Through this process, we aim to: ✅ Illustrate what high-quality nature-based carbon removal projects look like and clarify buyer expectations ✅ Help projects to access lower-cost financing by signing bankable offtake agreements with our members - Google, Meta, Microsoft, and Salesforce ✅ Share guidance and case studies over time to encourage more capital off the sidelines, more projects into development, and more buyers to the table 💡 To learn more about our RFP approach check out our blog post (link in comments). 📝 Project developers: To apply, submit your applications by the January 31, 2025 priority deadline to guarantee an initial review. Learn more and submit your proposal via our website (link in comments). 📅 For an overview of the RFP process and timeline, please join us for our second project developer webinar on 12/17 at 8am PT / 11am ET. • 🌳 A big thank you to all the incredible developers who applied to our first Reforestation & Agroforestry RFP! We know that applying to an RFP like this one is a huge team effort, and your hard work was evident in the quantity and quality of project submissions we received from around the world. Symbiosis has now completed our initial screening process and arrived at a shortlist of priority projects for intermediate diligence. This stage will further narrow our list to finalists for full diligence, bringing us closer to signing our first offtake agreements. We’ve already informed developers about their application status and next steps. To those who did not make the shortlist in this first cycle, we encourage you to explore our early-stage project resources and investor database (links in comments) and stay tuned for future RFPs. We plan to publish lessons learned from the RFP in the coming months, highlighting common strengths and areas for improvement among applications. Thank you again to everyone who submitted for your dedication to restoring nature and scaling high-quality carbon removal. Efforts like yours are crucial for helping address the challenges facing our planet today. #NatureRestoration #CarbonCredits #CarbonMarkets #CarbonRemoval

  • ⏳ The Symbiosis Coalition RFP priority deadline is nine days away! If you’re a developer still thinking about applying, follow these steps: 1️⃣ Ensure your project(s) at minimum meet Symbiosis’s Quality Pillars and Reforestation and Agroforestry Quality Criteria (links in the comments), are ready to undergo a robust diligence process, and can enter into long-term offtake agreements with Symbiosis Members (at least a feasibility assessment and ideally pilot-stage project is complete). 2️⃣ Review our readiness checklist to determine whether the RFP is the right fit at this time and prepare your submission. Developers can also understand what to expect and submit on the commercial side by viewing our offtake guidance. 3️⃣ Submit your applications through our online platform by the January 31, 2025 priority deadline. You can still submit your project(s) after this deadline but will not be guaranteed an initial review. We’re excited to review all your applications soon!

  • ⏱️ There’s still time to prepare a submission to the first Symbiosis Coalition RFP by the January 31 priority deadline! Whether you’re a project developer or know of project developers who might be interested, check out this list of resources (linked in the comments) to determine whether you or others in your network are eligible: ➡️ FAQs ➡️ Symbiosis Reforestation and Agroforestry Quality Criteria ➡️ RFP Developers Readiness Checklist We know applying to RFPs can be a lot of work. For those not yet ready to apply, we assembled a list of known resources (also linked in the comments) for those who may want to apply to other Symbiosis RFPs or other nature-based carbon removal RFPs in the future. While these resources are not Symbiosis vetted or approved, they can be a good starting point to support developers who need it. Developers do not need to work with anyone on this list to work with Symbiosis. There are also other great resources out there to help developers. Don’t see your organization on the list but think you should be there? Let us know!

  • 📆 Join us for Symbiosis' third Project Developer Webinar on Monday, January 13, at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET. Symbiosis Coalition aims to support projects to access low-cost financing by helping members to sign bankable offtake agreements and, as appropriate, facilitating connections between developers and investors to finance projects. As developers prepare their submissions, they should make sure to review Symbiosis’ Offtake Guidance. This guidance, developed with input from buyers, developers, and investors, aims to clarify the elements of a bankable, catalytic offtake agreement and help developers understand what to expect and submit on the commercial side of their proposal. In our third Project Developer Webinar we will discuss the Symbiosis Offtake Guidance, which outlines: ✅ The high-level deal structure and key terms project developers can expect upon reaching the contracting stage ✅ Elements for developers to consider when developing the commercial terms of their proposals 👉 Review our Offtake Guidance, other RFP resources, and RSVP to the webinar at the links in the comments.
