About us
In a diverse city known for its rich culture and beautiful beaches, Tampa General Hospital offers yet another incentive – world-class health care. Tampa General is a private not-for-profit hospital and one of the most comprehensive medical facilities in West Central Florida serving a dozen counties with a population in excess of 4 million. As one of the largest hospitals in Florida, Tampa General is licensed for 1,040 beds, and with over 8,000 employees, is one of the region’s largest employers. Tampa General Hospital has been affiliated with the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine since the school was created in the early 1970s. Tampa General is the primary teaching affiliate of the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine and over 300 residents are assigned to Tampa General Hospital for specialty training in areas ranging from general internal medicine to neurosurgery. In addition, USF medical students, nurses and physical therapy students all receive part of their training at Tampa General. Faculty of the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine admit and care for patients at Tampa General as do community physicians, many of whom also serve as adjunct clinical faculty. TGH is the area’s only level I trauma center and one of just five burn centers in Florida. With four medical helicopters we are able to transport critically injured or ill patients from 23 surrounding counties to receive the advanced care they need. The hospital is home to one of the leading organ transplant centers in the country, having performed more than 6,000 adult solid organ transplants, including the state’s first successful heart transplant in 1985. Tampa General Hospital is committed to serving all residents of West Central Florida. We provide comprehensive health services, ranging from wellness and primary care to the most complex specialty care and post-acute services.

As #HurricaneHelene passed, baby Jackson arrived! Jackson is in our Jennifer Leigh Muma NICU due to some breathing issues, but he's surrounded by love and care. His nurses even made special signs for Jackson and the other families riding out the storm. Amanda, Logan, and their new little one are in great hands, getting all the support they need during this memorable moment. #WeAreTGH

Our B Team has arrived to continue post-storm efforts, and we want to extend our deepest thanks to the A Team for their dedication and hard work during #HurricaneHelene. This "changing of the guard" ensures seamless care for our patients and community. Both teams have been essential, with the A Team holding strong through the storm, and now the B Team stepping in to support recovery. We are incredibly grateful for every team member who continues to go above and beyond in these challenging times. #WeAreTGH

Welcome to world, baby Shane! Born yesterday morning at TGH to proud parents Mary, one of our very own Pediatric ICU nurses, and John, who works with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. Mom and baby are doing well, and dad stayed by their side as they rode out #HurricaneHelene together. We're so proud to support Mary, a TGH team member, and her family during this special moment. Even in the storm, the care and dedication at TGH never stop. 💙 #WeAreTGH

As the region’s only Level I Trauma Center, Tampa General Hospital remains open and our team stands ready to care for our community. Last night, the AquaFence, a water-tight barrier capable of withstanding up to 15 feet of storm surge, stood strong against #HurricaneHelene. TGH Brooksville & TGH Spring Hill are operating as normal, serving our community throughout this challenging time.
