"The women followed behind, and when they had seen the tomb... they returned and prepared spices." —Luke 23:55-56 After witnessing Jesus's scourges, wounds, and crucifixion, Mary must witness His burial. She ponders the prophets' words and knows that her Son is the Messiah, that He will triumph over death. Mary is now mourning all of mankind. She mourns each sinner who will reject Christ's Precious Blood spilled for him or her. † Most faithful Mary, help me adore Christ's Body and Blood and receive this saving gift worthily. When God calls me home, pray that I am in a state of grace and that I will have the humility to embrace the Lord's Divine Mercy. Amen. †

"After this, Joseph of Arimathea came and took his body." —John 19:38 Mary embraces her Son with a love and grief beyond words. Even in this most sorrowful moment, Mary continues her fiat to God's Will, accepting her role with perfect virtue. † Sorrowful Mother, purify my heart to desire God's Will alone. I offer my sufferings to your Immaculate Heart and Christ's Sacred Heart. Amen. †

"Woman, behold thy son." –John 19:26 The sword has pierced Mary's heart. At Jesus's death, Mary feels the greatest pain of any mother and the purest love of any human. It is wholly for Christ. † Virgin Mary, when I feel abandoned, take me under your mantle. Let me never avert my gaze from your Son, and help me dedicate my life to repaying the infinite debt that He paid on the Cross. †

"A large crowd of people followed Jesus, including many women who mourned and lamented him." —Luke 23:27 Mary knows the sword is poised to pierce her heart, and yet she only mourns for her Son. Through every torment He endures, she is there with unfathomable love. † Our Lady of Sorrows, lead me along the Way of the Cross to offer Christ my sufferings and consolation, little as they may be. Never let me be blinded to my sins and how they nailed your precious Son to the Cross. Amen. †

"After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers." —Luke 2:46 Imagine the great sorrow and fear Mary felt when she believed they had lost the Christ Child. Despite her perfect motherhood, God allowed Mary to endure this three-day humility, strengthening her faith to an even more perfect degree. † Adorable Mary, I long to seek Christ with the same devotion as you. When He appears distant from me, help me to remain steadfast, and when He is near, help me to embrace His precious consolation. Amen. †
