On this #IndigenousPeoplesDay, we celebrate the strength, creativity, and resilience of Indigenous peoples across the country, while highlighting the youth of the Oglala Lakota Nation in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. Through Outlast, a project founded by LT (South Dakota '21), local students are learning to tell their stories through film and media. This film camp provides the next generation with the tools to reclaim their narratives and inspire change in their communities. At Teach For America, we stand with Indigenous peoples’ self-determination, advocating for education and student empowerment as essential pathways to a renewed community and culture. #IndigenousPeoplesDay #LakotaYouth #OutlastFilmCamp #TeachForAmerica Photo credit: Outlast Arts and Education

🚨 This National Tutoring Appreciation Week, let's celebrate the vital role tutoring plays in supporting the unique learning needs of all students! One impactful way to do this is by strengthening the tutor-to-teacher pipeline through programs like our Ignite Fellowship, Step Up Tutoring and Deans for Impact (DFI)’s Aspiring Teachers as Tutors Network. 📚✨ High-impact tutoring not only boosts student success but also provides aspiring educators with invaluable real-world experience. 🗞️Tutoring News: High-impact tutoring is one way schools can tackle #chronicabsenteeism, according to the CEO of Teach For America Elisa Villanueva Beard while on NBC News. She explains that we have to "ensure our kids feel connected and have sense of belonging in school." "I saw [high-impact tutoring] in action and I asked the students how it's working, and they say 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗱𝗮𝘆. They love connecting with their tutor, and it gives them another caring adult they have access to. And most importantly, they’re learning how to read and they're catching up, which gives them great pride and gets them excited to come to school," says Beard. Teach for America has their own high-impact tutoring program, the Teach For America Ignite Fellowship, which is a recipient of our NSSA Tutoring Program Design Badge: https://lnkd.in/ggf74FT6 Watch the full news story from Steven Romo here: https://lnkd.in/dK9gcpvR

To round out our week of highlighting Ignite, hear from Shene' Brown, an ASLF alumni and former Ignite parent. While Shene’ and Brian’s story is only one of many, every family and child deserve the same access and level of support they experienced. Half of all US students started the 2022-23 school year behind grade level, yet less than 10% of students received any type of district tutoring last year. Teach For America St. Louis is on a mission to change that by expanding the Ignite High-Impact Tutoring Fellowship, ultimately providing 600 students with an additional 10,800 hours of learning each year by 2030.
