History at The Hermitage 104 years ago! In 1920, the United States was in the process of ratifying the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, which would grant women the right to vote. The eyes of the nation were on Tennessee - the last remaining state with the power to ratify, or nullity, the 19th Amendment. The Hermitage Hotel served as a hub for state politics, situated one block from the state Capitol, and was dubbed "The Third House." Pro-suffrage campaigners wore yellow roses, while Anti-ratification forces wore red, leading to the "War of the Roses." Young state senator Harry T. Burn, influenced by a letter from his mother, changed his vote from anti-suffrage, securing the amendment's passage on August 18, 1920. A single tie-breaking vote tipped the scales - a shining example that every vote matters!

ON ASSIGNMENT: Evan Patel (11-year-old son of Managing Director, Dee P.) interviews team members, Soledad Bardas (Director of Rooms) and Leo Juan de la Torre (Director of Engineering.) In addition to both being from Argentina, they share a deep passion for football (soccer!) While Sole prefers the ocean and scuba diving, Leo would love to live in the mountains. #MeetMeAtTheHermitage
