Happy Fall 2024 semester, Advertising and PR students! Over the past week we had our 4 clients come to The Lab to pitch to the students the campaign they will be working on. Client pitch week is such an exciting time for the students as they get to finally dive into their work for the client. The first hurdle for students will have to overcome is having the client approve their strategy in 4-6 weeks. After that, it’s all fun and activations (along with creating the client’s book, pitch deck, pitch practice, and all the other things that go into creating a strategic campaign). But still mostly fun! Make sure to follow our wonderful clients and be on the lookout for the students' work! The Lab is a new experiential learning environment in the School of Advertising & Public Relations in the Moody College of Communication at The University of Texas at Austin. The Lab is home to a group of youth-driven, culturally relevant agencies made up of multi-disciplinary student teams led by world-class faculty. Agencies in The Lab collaborate on integrated campaign projects with client sponsors such as Amazon, Dell Technologies, Circuit of the Americas and Molson Coors Beverage Company. This engagement helps prepare students for careers in advertising, media or public relations by providing them with critical thinking skills and real-world experience.

The final student agency to pitch in The Lab UT this semester was to our small business client: TheRealMe.io. Even before the creation of The Lab UT in Texas Advertising & Public Relations, I worked with many small/start up companies while teaching integrated communications management. Often, students have a tremendous impact on emerging organizations. Today's pitch did not disappoint. The students of the wa media agency (student agency name) presented a complete integrated campaign to their client. The Q & A session was extensive and the students were able to answer their client's questions, give new suggestions, and more. We are looking forward to TheRealMe.io's success with wa media's plan. Thank you, Deb Samuels-Peretz, PhD and Jonathan Samuels for being great clients to our students this semester. Deb Samuels-Peretz, PhD it was fun introducing you to Austin's own Torchy's Tacos and hope you enjoyed some BBQ for dinner tonight. And our students could not do it without are amazing The Lab UT faculty. Each student agency has a main professor but all students get extra support in coaching sessions with our The Lab UT faculty who have expertise in different areas of a strategic communication agency. It's the last day of classes at The University of Texas at Austin and the final two student agencies pitched to their clients in The Lab UT. This morning, boiling point (the student agency name) pitched to the American Red Cross of Central & South Texas. "At boiling point, we are guided by a fundamental truth: even the smallest shifts can spark powerful transformations." The boiling point has done so.much.good for their client. I hope the students realize that the amazingly professional work they created will do a world of good and can help save lives. This afternoon in The Lab UT our 8th (of 10) student agency pitched to its client: CommUnityCare Health Centers. Under the guidance of Valerie Salinas-Davis, Cuarenta (the student agency name) created a strategic communication campaign for a rebrand. In today's pitch, I was extremely impressed with the students pitching the campaign - I could have been at a professional agency's pitch. Congrats to all the members of Cuarenta! It's the last Friday of class in The Lab UT and we had two more amazing student agencies pitch today to their clients. First client: The University of Texas at Austin's Our Tower: The Next 100 Years. UT is, "embarking embarking on a once-in-a-lifetime venture to restore, revitalize and reimagine the Tower for Longhorns today and for generations to come." Under the mentorship of The Lab UT professor, Steve Rossmann, Legacy512 (the student agency's name) developed a strategic campaign to get UT students involved in the restoration and reimagining of our beloved UT Tower. Legacy512 did an excellent job on the campaign and pitch this morning. I'm always amazed at how professional these campaigns and pitches are in The Lab UT. Thank you to Rachel Davis Mersey for supporting our students to create this campaign. Another great day in The Lab UT today! Dell Technologies has been sponsoring students in The Lab UT for years now. Completely appropriate since Michael Dell's Dell Technologies story began on the 40 Acres. Dell Technologies is simply an incredible client to our students. They meet with various departments within the student agency weekly. Not just a 'check-in' but the team at Dell Blue (Dell Technologies internal creative communication agency) help each student grow in all the student agency departments. IllUminaTe (the student agency) was quite impressive today! The pitch told the entire campaign story in the best way possible. It was a fully strategic integrated campaign that was impressive. It was also clear that the students had a great relationship with the entire team at Dell Technologies + Dell Blue. Kudos to their academic advisor, Jim Bosiljevac for a great semester. It was Jim's first semester as a faculty member in The Lab UT (he's a faculty member in Texas Creative, our portfolio program) and I'm so happy he's part of our team. Thank you to Lisa Bennett, Joel Davis, Ebone Crayton, Jennifer Kasprzyk, Luke Woody, Christin Klayman, Lila Hutcherson, Angie Croslin, Jennifer Faulk, and Grace Healy for giving so much to our students this semester. Another great day in The Lab UT today! This afternoon, Lisa Dobias's campaigns class pitched to its sponsoring client: L&F Distributors. The students branded a new soft drink coming to stores (later this year) and designed a launch campaign. The agency's designs and strategic communication ideas will be implemented by the client. Our sponsoring clients are very important to us in The Lab UT because they provide donations that help fund our capstone experience for our students. In return, clients get to interact with the next generation of leaders, get a pipeline to the best and brightest seniors, and help them grow and gain valuable skills during their senior year before they launch. In addition, all the intellectual property the students create belong to the sponsoring client. This student agency, Roundtable Agency, went above and beyond with their research -- traveling twice to Eagle Pass, Texas to interview people in their target market at local businesses. WOW! Thank you to L&F Distributors for being an important sponsor this semester.
