  • Did you know TTG has specialized equipment, skills and training to remove graffiti? If this unfortunate need arises for your structure, it is important to consult with top conservators on the best removal methods. Many clients attempt removal on their own through chemical treatment or power washing, which often further damages the historic surface. For this project shown at the Historic Metro Nashville/Davidson County Courthouse, TTG used laser cleaning in combination with other techniques to effectively and safely remove damage from historic limestone, granite and bronze surfaces. #WorkWithPurpose

  • The blended slate roof installed at Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church has many benefits, as it is a natural and environmentally friendly product that is energy-efficient, fire-resistant and durable. Slate roofs can last well over 100 years, meaning the restoration of this historic church will endure for generations. On Lookout Mountain's Pillar & Ground Podcast, TTG CEO summarized why this focus on quality is so important: “It’s centered in a belief that historic buildings are a part of our heritage and we are a link from our past to today’s present to our future, and without our efforts and the stewardship of these buildings to care for them in the manner that we do, these buildings wouldn’t be here for decades and in some cases even centuries, and if we do our job well today, we’ll preserve these buildings for generations to come. And that’s the entire point and mission of our company. ” - Rick Freitag

  • When an architectural concrete balustrade has been around since 1896, it's worth a close assessment – both to determine where treatment may be needed for preservation, but also learn what critical factors have led to its incredible longevity. Field work for this assessment included metal detection to identify and map rebar placement in the balustrade members, sound testing to determine locations and levels of separation in the concrete, photographic documentation of the patterns of distress and cracking, and core samples to be taken to our partner Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc.'s lab for material testing. Comment below if you're interested in learning about the findings!

After private equity firm KKR bought Potter Global Technologies, a manufacturer of fire protection equipment in St. Louis, employees learned they were being given an ownership stake in the company. The goal is for KKR to sell Potter Global Technologies five or so years later, for a profit. If that happens, workers will get payouts tied to their tenure, on top of salaries. If past sales are any indication, the money can be life changing. "We've been doing it, but now we're going to get benefits from it," a hopeful Potter employee, Debi Brumit, said.  https://lnkd.in/dhkuSmYv #employeeownership #60Minutes #privateequity

  • On this last day of #PreservationMonth, TTG showcases Orton Hall, one of the most prestigious landmarks of The Ohio State University's Columbus campus. The Tradesmen Group was selected by the university to replace the building’s shingle roof with a new, historically accurate tile roof. Using archived records, TTG craftsmen were able to manufacture new Ludowici Celadon tile so they exactly matched the original tiles installed in the 1800s. To support the added weight of the tile, TTG stabilized the existing roof with an additional 10 tons of structural steel framing and hangers. TTG also installed all new lead-coated, copper gutters and downspouts and fabricated a new ornamental copper cornice to replicate the more-than-100-year-old cornice around the bell tower. Work was completed in 2003. Named for Ohio State’s first president and geologist, Edward Orton Sr., Orton Hall is the only building in the world that was intentionally designed to reflect geologic time. Originally, the building was built exclusively of Ohio stone arranged in stratigraphic order, or rock layers. The main building represents the Paleozoic Era, with stones layered from Silurian at the base to Carboniferous near the top of the bell tower. The intricate stone carvings along the bell tower depict Mesozoic Era and Cenozoic Era animals, including dinosaurs, ichthyosaurs, pterosaurs and a saber-tooth cat. The iconic bell tower houses 25,000 pounds of bells, added in 1915, that chime every 15 minutes. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. #SavingPlaces #GoBucks
