Hi everyone. As we approach the one-year anniversary (!) of launching This is CNY, we want to thank one of our top corporate partners, M&T Bank, for their incredible support over this past year. 🧡✨ We sat down recently with Stephen Gorczynski, regional president of M&T Bank, to hear why he loves to live and work in Central New York. (We especially love his shoutouts for Eva's and the Syracuse Mets Baseball Club.) "I wish we could show people a crystal ball of Central New York 10 or 15 years from now," Steve said. "The vision is there. We'll be a thriving community for years to come." We have exciting growth plans for 2025. Want to partner with us like M&T Bank? Let's talk. https://lnkd.in/ge4QC8Qv - Katrina Tulloch, editor 🎥 : Nick Lusnar, Advance Media New York

In towns big and small across America, vibrant arts communities are doing more than just filling galleries and theaters — they’re breathing life into local economies, fostering creativity and building connections. Three of our area's cities made the SMU DataArts list of top 40 most arts-vibrant communities in the US, two for the first time. https://lnkd.in/eqZDGtVv

Celebrating the diverse and delicious Salt City Market, which opened its doors four years ago today in downtown Syracuse! The initiative from the ALLYN FAMILY FOUNDATION transformed a parking lot into a vibrant, family-friendly gathering place, a home for culinary entrepreneurs, a co-op grocery Syracuse Cooperative Market, a spot to take Kitchen Literacy Project classes or find locally made goods and much more. At the time of its opening, one of the original vendors, Dreamer Glen of Miss Prissy's (who is now building out her own restaurant on S. Clinton St.) said: “It’s going to be such a unifier. It’s what our city needs — a place to bring all our cultures together.”

Collaboration and compassion are making possible a one-of-a-kind donation — delivering roughly 30,000 pounds of premium coho salmon filets to some of the region’s neediest families. It could be a model for future donations of this scale. Steven Featherstone reports on how LocalCoho, an aquafarming company, Shawn Salle of BROWN CARBONIC SALES CO, the Food Bank of Central New York, Syracuse-Onondaga Food Systems Alliance, Meghan Durso, MS, SHRM-SCP of TDO (Train Develop Optimize) - the CNY Manufacturing Extension Partnership Center and many volunteers came together. https://lnkd.in/e-hKyDjy

Last Thursday, we attended the Economic Forecast Breakfast hosted by our friends at CenterState CEO. The report holds some really interesting data and comments from survey respondents (thanks for your hard work on this, Research & Marketing Strategies, Inc. (RMS) and CenterState). There’s a lot to dig into, and challenges and opportunities to be addressed, but we deal in optimism and it’s encouraging to see positive sentiments like these: 📈 53% rated their business performance in 2024 as above average or excellent 📈 73% believe their business performance in 2025 will be above average or excellent 📈 86% describe CNY’s 2025 economic outlook as good or excellent 📈 63% report that jobs/hiring at their company would increase this year 📈 71% see their companies as beneficiaries of the anticipated growth of CNY’s tech sector Have you read through the report, available on CenterState's website? What are your initial thoughts? #CEOForecast #economicdevelopment #thisiscny

An Indianapolis-based developer plans to build a nine-story full-scale hotel in downtown Syracuse on currently underutilized property. 🏨 The Onondaga Hotel will feature 245 rooms, ground-floor retail space, second-floor retail space and top-floor restaurant, bar and ballroom spaces. The project from Sun Development and Management comes at a time of need, after the local hospitality industry lost more than 500 guest rooms in the city in the past year because of projects converting hotels into residential properties. More people flew in and out of Syracuse Regional Airport Authority (Syracuse Hancock International Airport — SYR) last year than at any other time in its 75-year history. 🛫 🛬 The record was achieved despite Southwest Airlines leaving the airport in early August, and before any Micron Technology or related semiconductor industry travel demand begins.
