Hurricane Milton has intensified, reaching a Category 4 level with sustained winds estimated at 150 mph. This formidable storm poses significant threats, including a storm surge capable of elevating water levels by 3 to 5 feet in some regions of the northern Yucatan Peninsula. A comparable surge threat looms over Florida's west coast, where water could rise 8 to 12 feet above ground. Dangerous waves can be expected to accompany this surge. 🔶Milton is progressing north-northwest at 7 mph, setting its path toward the west coast of Florida. 🔶Hurricane Watches were issued for regions including Rio Lagartos to Cabo Catoche, Campeche to the south of Celestun, and the Florida Gulf coast from Chokoloskee to the Suwannee River, including Tampa Bay and Dry Tortugas. 🔶 Storm Surge Watches are in effect for Florida's Gulf coast stretching from Flamingo northward to the mouth of the Suwannee River, including Charlotte Harbor and Tampa Bay. 🔶 Milton is projected to deliver 5 to 10 inches of rainfall across Florida, potentially reaching up to 15 inches in localized spots. These downpours are likely to trigger flash flooding and elevate river levels to moderate or major flooding stages. Meanwhile, the northern Yucatan Peninsula should prepare for rainfall amounts between 2 to 4 inches. Residents in affected areas are urged to closely monitor updates and heed evacuation or safety advisories issued by local authorities. Your immediate attention and preparation are crucial to safety.
