The U.S. health economy is $4.5T – more than the entire GDP of any country in the world other than China – and is projected to grow to $7.7T by 2032 – more than the combined total GDP of Germany and India. What is society’s return on this massive investment? Not much, according to our latest report, the 2024 Trends Shaping the Health Economy. The 2024 edition of our Trends Shaping the Health Economy Report explores the 8 macro trends that will define the emerging landscape of the U.S. healthcare system and concludes that the winners of healthcare’s negative-sum game will be those who deliver optimal value to their customers. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eqEqsPX3

Despite years of value-based care experimentation, its long-term viability as a strategy to reduce costs while improving quality remains in question. As of 2022, only 25.4% of U.S. healthcare payments flowed through value-based payment models, with #MedicareAdvantage representing the largest share (38.9%). More in #TheCompass. ⤵

This past Wednesday, our President and Chief Executive Officer took the stage at HLTH USA to open the #GLP1 Summit and provide his perspective on the landscape of #cardiometabolic disease management. Key takeaways: 1️⃣ Despite spending nearly 2X more on healthcare than peer countries, the health status of Americans is deteriorating. From 2020 to 2050, the percentage of U.S. adults with chronic conditions is projected to increase by 12.4 percentage points. 2️⃣ Between 2020 and 2022, prescription volumes for GLP-1 medications increased 300%, and in 2021, national spending on #semaglutide (the peptide name for drugs like #Ozempic and #Wegovy) totaled $10.7B. 3️⃣ The increase in GLP-1 use does not correlate with clinical indication. Just over half of patients taking GLP-1s have a history of type 2 diabetes or have an associated medical visit with their prescription. "When you’re in the data business like we are, data visualization is a major part of how you interact with users. And just like any medium, the way people receive a visualization is affected by much more than the pure facts and figures it conveys." Our Visualization Lead shares the most important lessons she learned during our most recent rebrand in her latest article for the Trilliant Health Tech Blog. https://hubs.ly/Q02VL0SF0

"We charge whatever prices we want in healthcare with very little justification, and we get away with it. We don't have any trust in the healthcare system that we're going to get the best deal or the best price for services. Most people's perception as consumers or patients is 'where am I going to get ripped off today?'" Trilliant Health's Chief Research Officer joins Healthcare NOW Radio's Healthcare de Jure podcast to discuss how healthcare defies the laws of economics, the factors driving cost and outcomes, the performance of value-based care and more. 🎧 Listen now: https://hubs.ly/Q02VtNmp0 #HCdeJure

“Employers are frustrated right now because they’re not seeing the ROI for the amount of money they’re putting into their health benefit plans. Now that prices are beginning to be exposed, there’s a lot of opportunities to steer employees to the higher-value providers.” Our Chief Research Officer discusses how employers are best positioned to demand value for money from the U.S. #healthcare system with Managed Healthcare Executive. ⤵️ https://hubs.ly/Q02TrDCH0
