About us
The University of Rochester Clinical and Translational Science Institute (UR CTSI) helps biomedical research teams work faster and better. Our mission is to accelerate the application of basic biomedical science findings to human health problems. As a member of the Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) Program, we help researchers develop, test and implement life-improving or life-saving interventions in the community. Visit the UR CTSI website at ctsi.urmc.edu to learn how we can help you. The University of Rochester Clinical and Translational Science Institute is supported in part by CTSA Program grants UL1 TR002001, KL2 TR001999, and TL1 TR002000 from the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS), a component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

The UR CTSI's Clinical Research Center is a crucial resource for University of Rochester researchers—and a place six-year-old Teddy White and his family have come to rely on. For four years, Teddy has received innovative gene therapy to treat Duchenne muscular dystrophy through a clinical trial led by Emma Ciafaloni, MD, in the Clinical Research Center. Teddy completed the most recent phase of his trial in June and was granted his wish to mark the occasion: a trip to the top of the University's Rush Rhees Tower. Check out Teddy's story > https://lnkd.in/e7F3qRMR #URochesterResearch

The UR CTSI's Greater Rochester Practice-Based Research Network brings primary care clinicians and researchers together to improve patient care and outcomes. The network boasts 147 member practices providing care to more than 450,000 adults and 140,000 children. Kimberly Van Orden, PhD, an associate professor of Psychiatry, has leveraged the network to recruit participants for her research. "Older people at risk for suicide do not tend to show up in mental health clinics, they tend to show up in primary care clinics," she said. "Doing research and recruiting patients from primary care clinics is essential to my research program." We are now accepting KL2 Career Development Award applications! The KL2 provides early career researchers with two years of support to become multidisciplinary, independent clinical and translational scientists. KL2 scholars develop a mentored research experience that will serve as a pilot project for an individual K-award (or R-award in exceptional cases). Initial letters of intent are due on Monday, September 16. See the RFA and learn more on the KL2 award webpage (link in the comments, below). #CTSA #KL2
