Timeless words from Wesley Hsu, and a reminder for why sailing is for everyone: “Is there a single greater thing you can teach an 8, 9, or 10-year old than to sail solo? Name me another activity that teaches geometry, mechanics, and physics while showing a small child that the mind always matters more than brute strength, and that size and gender are irrelevant to success. A sport where the playing field of wind and water mutates with every race to remind them that nature is ever-dynamic – yet enforces rules of right-of-way, sportsmanship, and marine safety. Lessons that train them to assemble complex sails and rigging, wash their own clothes, and not panic when capsizing. Lessons that teach them to trust their judgment, take responsibility for their decisions and not to blame anyone/anything else other than themselves. A lifestyle that begins with a love for the water, and ends with a wizard-like ability to read its secret language of waves, clouds, currents and the predictable movement of a boat. Sailing is a way of seeing the world without a digital screen.” ⛵️Sign up your child for sailing lessons – Find a sailing program near you: https://lnkd.in/eP_ugTMd Repost from 🎥: @arinatsyshkova on Instagram

Foiling is No Longer the Future, Foiling is Now, says Phil Muller, Youth Performance Manager, US Sailing. 🌊As the sailing community continues to embrace new foiling platforms as legitimate activities to enjoy the wind and water, Muller has been on the road this winter connecting the dots between traditional sailing to emerging foiling boards and boat classes. Read his full recap of recent events including the first Wing Foil Coach Camp, supported by Armstrong Foils , Foiling Week Pensacola, and upcoming SailGP Inspire events. 🏆 Also; for the first time, two US Sailing Championships will feature foiling classes in 2025: ⚪ U.S. Wingfoil Championship June 20-22 at @St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco, CA ⚪ U.S. Singlehanded Championship (held in the foiling Waszp) June 20-22 at Tabor Academy in Marion, MA (the first time in U.S. Singlehanded Championship’s 63 year history that it will be held in a foiling dinghy!). https://lnkd.in/e3ZwQrrh

Tristan Loescher grew up in Bermuda, surrounded by the water – so it was only natural that gravitated towards sailing as a child. But after drifting away from the sport at boarding school, it was his love of coaching and teaching that brought him back into the fold and to a position at Chicago’s Columbia Sailing School. “I had always been a coach in some form, whether it was swimming, snowboarding, mountain biking, or skateboarding. I loved what I call ‘Stoke Transfer’—the idea of passing on my enthusiasm for something I love to others,” he said. In recognition of Black History Month, US Sailing sat down with Tristan, Adult Program Director at Columbia Sailing School, to discuss his unconventional journey into sailing, the power of ‘stoke transfer,’ and his efforts to make the sport more accessible and inclusive for all.
