Just days into her retirement from professional soccer, Alex Morgan has continued making the investments in access that have built her legacy off the field. In an exclusive interview with ADWEEK , the two-time FIFA Women's World Cup™ champion spoke about her newest campaign for and investment in Nourish — a platform providing insurer-backed access to dietitians and nutrition. She also showed how it connected to work she’s been doing with her foundation since playing for the San Diego Wave Fútbol Club and her work on equity and inclusion since founding the TOGETHXR media firm. “I’ve been building,” she said. “It’s not like soccer’s ending, and then the next chapter is starting. It’s been a continuation.”

Just weeks into “retirement,” Alex Morgan’s launching a campaign for Nourish—an app-based platform linking patients with dietitians and meal-delivery service. As the platform’s angel investor, Morgan wanted to give more people insurance-covered access to the dietitians and nutritional information she received both as an athlete and while pregnant with her daughter, Charlie, and her forthcoming second child. Like many of our patients, Alex had a transformative experience working with a dietitian both as an athlete and as a mother, and we are excited to partner with her to collaborate in spreading the word about how impactful RDs are. As I near my six-month milestone at Nourish, I'm reflecting on why I am so fulfilled in my role. Working as a private practice RD at Nourish allows me to achieve many of the goals I set when I entered the fields of dietetics and public health. During my undergraduate and master's programs, I was passionate about addressing systemic food system issues, such as the affordability of processed vs. fresh foods, the prevalence of food deserts, and the lack of widespread nutrition education. In my role at Nourish, I contribute to the broader healthcare system. I teach mothers to build balanced meals with fiber and protein so they can provide higher-quality meals to their children, even on a budget. I assist patients whose doctors couldn't provide information on how nutrition impacts their migraines or GI symptoms. I help patients reduce cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar, ultimately lessening the burden of chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension, on our healthcare system. When I started this position, I wasn't sure how relevant it would be to my Master's in Public Health, but I quickly realized how interconnected they are. Many of my clients have their counseling fully or partially covered by insurance, making high-quality nutrition care accessible to a diverse population. My clients span a range of financial backgrounds, states, ages, and health conditions, which makes my work incredibly interesting and rewarding every day. By providing accessible, free, or reduced-price nutrition care, I am proud to be part of an upstream intervention that leads to significant and positive downstream health effects.
