One of our engineers recently traveled to Toulouse, France to lead an international aviation meeting. The SAE Committee A-21 Spring 2024 general meeting supports FAA/DOT’s aircraft noise measurement and modeling and emissions modeling needs with the international community. FAA develops the Aviation Environmental Design Tool (AEDT), which is used globally, and participation in the SAE A-21 meeting helps gain international support/acceptance of the tool. The U.S. DOT Volpe Center uses and offers training on AEDT twice a year. Learn more about our Environmental Measurement & Modeling team’s work—including our AEDT training—here: tinyurl.com/5fkuzdpv

A team of environmental control specialists and community planners were recently in Gettysburg National Military Park and Eisenhower National Historic Site completing a site visit with National Park Service (NPS) staff to collect on-the-ground data and information and facilitate an Internal Scoping Workshop with park staff. Our project team used real-time web mapping to collect GIS data, as well as a tracking application and location-enabled photos to gather geolocated data on proposed trails that will be integrated into updated maps and a pre-NEPA report to advance the Comprehensive Trails Plan. This Comprehensive Trails Planning effort will facilitate decision-making for improving pedestrian and bicycle access to and within Gettysburg National Military Park, the most visited Civil War battlefield in the country, and adjacent Eisenhower National Historic Site, improving transportation safety, equitable access, and protection of valuable historic, cultural, and natural resources at both parks.
