For more than 50 years, the U.S. Department of Transportation's Volpe Center has helped the transportation community navigate its most challenging problems. As the National Transportation Systems Center, our mission is to improve transportation by anticipating and addressing emerging issues and advancing technical, operational, and institutional innovations across all modes. The Volpe Center is a unique federal agency that is 100 percent funded by sponsored projects. We partner with public and private organizations to assess the needs of the transportation community, evaluate research and development endeavors, assist in the deployment of state-of-the-art transportation technologies, and inform decision- and policy-making through our comprehensive analyses.   • We recently presented at the Quantum Technologies in Transportation Workshop organized by the Highly Automated Systems Safety Center of Excellence at U.S. DOT headquarters in Washington, D.C. Our presentation focused on a a recent study of quantum computing conducted for the Intelligent Transportation Systems Joint Program Office that resulted in two reports: one on quantum technology and the second on transportation applications most suitable for quantum computing and possible next steps for the department.   • Our team recently supported FRA’s grant management team to conduct a rail project implementation and delivery site review at the Southern California Regional Rail Authority on Metrolink’s Burbank Corridor Speed and Safety Improvements project. We’re coordinating the reviews on federal financial reports and invoices and preparing the monitoring report with checklist findings on preliminary engineering, environmental permitting, final design, and construction deliverables.   • CONGRATULATIONS to FRA for its FRA Rail Program Delivery Workshop. With more than 400 participants at this two-day workshop, this event provided FRA grant recipients and stakeholders an opportunity to meet FRA staff, and it allowed FRA to foster workforce development and collaboration, as well as continue to build a learning culture within today’s rail industry. Workshop sessions highlighted new initiatives and updates in FRA processes, provided access to technical assistance and resources, and explored notable practices in project delivery—including a fireside chat from the U.S. DOT Project Delivery Center of Excellence housed at the U.S. DOT Volpe Center.
