  • Did you know that sound is as important to orcas as all of our senses combined? The noise from ships impacts marine life beyond simple annoyance, contributing to the extinction of an iconic resident of the Pacific Northwest. Read more about it here: https://lnkd.in/ee-gun5Z

  • The Department of Natural Resources manages over 2 million acres of forested trust lands in Washington for the benefit of all Washingtonians. Although DNR has historically prioritized harvesting these forests to generate revenue for public services through timber sales, they have the authority to manage forested trust lands for a multitude of economic, ecological, and social benefits. Today, we are launching the "State Forestlands for All" website for people to learn more about DNR’s authority to manage for multiple benefits, and how Climate Smart Forest management strategies can support healthier forests, salmon streams, and communities. • 🚨 NEW: The 2024 annual State of Forests and Public Lands report is here! This report evaluates the performance of Washington’s Commissioner of Public Lands this year, and outlines opportunities for progress for the next leader we elect. In November, voters will elect a new Commissioner of Public Lands (CPL). We see this important moment as an opportunity to turn the page on the current administration and push for bolder change that the agency needs. The next CPL will have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to develop new solutions. They'll enter the office with a clear mandate and grassroots demand to manage our state's resources on behalf of all the people of Washington, rather than solely for timber revenue. • It’s the Columbia Snake River Campaign Fly-In this week in Washington, DC! WCA's Rein Attemann joins passionate advocates to convey the importance of federal support in honoring treaty obligations, restoring salmon and steelhead runs, transitioning to a clean energy future, and preparing our communities for climate change. This week, they are meeting with Members of Congress from Washington, Oregon, and other states, as well as senior officials from federal agencies who have specific roles in implementing the US Government's commitments to saving salmon. An important piece of this is ensuring systems and infrastructure are in place to replace the energy, transportation, irrigation, and recreation services the dams of the lower Snake River currently provide. Thank you to the Columbia Snake River Campaign for their work planning this trip! WCA is proud, honored, and excited to be engaged in this campaign. Onward!

    Puget Sound Senior Campaign Manager

It’s the #ColumbiaSnakeRiverCampaign Fly-In this week in Washington, DC! I’m here representing #WashingtonConservationAction, joining with dozens of people helping convey the critical importance of federal support for honoring treaty obligations to Northwest Tribal Nations, restoring salmon and steelhead runs in the Columbia/Snake River basin, accelerating the Pacific Northwest’s transition to clean, renewable energy production, and providing regional economic opportunities, and increasing resilience to climate change. Specifically, we will enlist their full support and commitment for the implementation of the Columbia Basin Restoration Initiative (CBRI), U.S. Government Commitments, and Resilient Columbia Basin Agreement reached between President Biden and the Six Sovereigns in 2023 (Washington, Oregon, and the Yakama, Warm Springs, Umatilla, and Nez Perce Tribes). This week we’re meeting with Members of Congress from Washington State. We also will be meeting with Senators and Representatives from Oregon to Pennsylvania – elected officials who understand abundant and healthy salmon runs are our federal government’s responsibility and obligation to the treaties we have with tribal nations.   As such, we are also meeting with senior officials from federal agencies who have specific roles to implement the actions and commitments in the US Government agreement. An important piece of this is to ensure systems and infrastructure is in place to replace the energy, transportation, irrigation and recreation services the dams of the lower Snake River currently provide. A big thank you to the Columbia Snake River Campaign for their work planning this trip!  WCA is proud, honored, and excited to be engaged in this campaign. Onward!

  • It’s National Voter Registration Day! There are only 49 DAYS until election day and there’s so much at stake this year. Every year, millions of Americans find themselves unable to vote because they miss a registration deadline, don’t update their registration, or aren’t sure how to register. Voters need to register or update their registration for reasons such as moving to a new address, turning 18, becoming a citizen, or changing their names. In the 2020 U.S. presidential election, as many as one in four Americans reported not being registered to vote or unsure if they were registered, with over 600,000 non-voters specifically citing a registration problem as their reason for not casting a ballot. Take 30 seconds today to register or update your registration and pledge to vote for the environment at our election center: https://lnkd.in/gmz8kES7
