From working as a therapeutic staff support to guiding adults through inpatient behavioral health care, Nicole Spuhler brings over a decade of diverse mental health experience to her role as a Wellthy Care Adviser Specialist. Now, Nicole leverages her depth of experience to provide Wellthy members with precise mental health resources they need. Nicole's profound commitment to personalized care shines through in her approach: “It’s such a huge responsibility that people are willing to tell us the most intimate details about what they're going through, and that they put that trust in us that we're gonna find them the best provider. When I take on a task, I take so much care in these recommendations, that if I'm giving a member a recommendation, I would give the same recommendation to my mom. Each task is really customized and there's never been a single task where I've had the same results, because I look so specifically for each individual person and get to know that person just from their background story that they provide.” Our latest Care Expert Spotlight highlights Nicole's commitment to expanding access to mental health support and her mission to empower caregivers with the knowledge and resources they need to maintain their own well-being while caring for others. Today is #WorldMentalHealthDay and the theme—mental health in the workplace—calls us to recognize the delicate balance that so many family and employee caregivers navigate. More than half of family caregivers report that caregiving impacts their mental health, and up to 70% of family caregivers report clinically significant levels of anxiety and depression. At Wellthy, we see the deep connection between care and mental health, and are committed to supporting employee caregivers in managing the many demands of caregiving, including mental health challenges. Let's work together to create a culture where mental health is prioritized, discussions are normalized, and support is readily available. The mental health of family caregivers and employee caregivers matters—today and every day. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eDgm-92C #MentalHealthAtWork #MentalHealth

Terrific to see the ROI of Wellthy's caregiving benefits covered in this piece from CNN, which takes a deep dive look at how companies are stepping up to support their employees who are juggling caregiving responsibilities. As the article covers, access to Wellthy reduced daily absenteeism, increased employee productivity, and helped companies improve retention and recruitment. And as nearly 100 Wellthy clients surfaced, when caregiving benefits reduce turnover it can mean the cost of providing those caregiving benefits more than pay for itself. Check out the piece here, which is a wonderful spotlight on what companies can do to holistically support employees with care needs—and how with shifting population dynamics, caregiving touches nearly every layer of the workforce. https://lnkd.in/eh-7S9xq #caregiving #employeecaregivers #futureofwork #eldercare

Our hearts go out to all those impacted by Hurricane Helene. As we witness this climate emergency unfold, we're reminded of the intricate link between care and extreme weather events—something we've seen play out from Houston to Asheville this year, as well as in so many additional communities. Amidst devastation like this, families and caregivers are often left struggling and vulnerable. The complexity of care can already be intense, and in the aftermath of a storm it can become exponentially more so as families are displaced and recover from significant damage. In the midst of emergencies, critical caregiving tasks still need to get done, like finding ways to refill prescription medications, access important paperwork and IDs that may have gotten lost or ruined in storm damage, getting loved ones to doctor's appointments, and so much more. As Wellthy Care Manager Stefany Pettinger shared this week: "In times like these, it's incredible to see the strength of family caregivers and the strength of communities banding together to support one another." We're thinking of all family caregivers right now who are bearing the burden of care amidst storm recovery, and stand ready to help families in their journey to recovery, and their ongoing care journeys in the days, weeks, and months ahead. #HurricaneHelene #DisasterRelief #CareSupport #FamilyCaregivers

New research from Principal Financial Group highlights the growing impact of caregiving on our workforce — and its findings are eye-opening. + Nearly a quarter of those in the "Sandwich Generation" caring for their children and aging relatives at the same time are thinking about leaving the workforce because of care responsibilities; + Within five years, an estimated 73 million people will be caregivers — up from 53 million at the start of this decade; + When a family caregivers leaves the workforce to care for a parent, they lose an average of $304,000 in wages and benefits over their lifetime. Faced with increasing pressure and complexity in managing care on top of work, today's multi-generational workforce is craving more support — and for many, that support is most pivotal when it comes to their wants and needs in a benefits program. Especially as our workforce now spans five generations. Check out more in Principal's report, which underscores the importance of diverse benefit offerings but also highlights the need for employers to tailor their benefits packages to meet the evolving needs of their workforce, particularly those with caregiving responsibilities. https://lnkd.in/eyEYV3Uu #data #caregiving #employeecaregivers #futureofwork

"Parents have a profound impact on the health of our children and the health of society. Yet, parents and caregivers today face tremendous pressures." That's the stark reality highlighted in a recent advisory from U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy, calling for a "fundamental shift" in support for working parents. As this piece by Jen Colletta in Human Resource Executive highlights, some alarming numbers are facing parents in the workforce today. + 40% say it’s harder today to find childcare than just a few years ago, and 65% have been on a daycare waitlist; + one-third of parents have reported "high levels" of stress in the past month; + working parents are spending nearly a quarter of their income on childcare; But there’s good news: employers are in a unique position to drive change. Solutions like care benefits, expanded paid leave, flexible scheduling, and investing in comprehensive mental health support have been shown to substantially impact the health and well-being of today’s workforce. And companies like Guardian Life, spotlighted in this article, are pioneering innovative benefits to support working parents throughout their caregiving journey.
