    Thoughts from our founder!

SOUND THE ALARM 🚨 and SHARE! To GOD Be The Glory! It’s been over a year of being in a federal court case and now it’s finally dismissed! A few things that need to be clarified: 1. This is a WIN and positive outcome for the Fearless Fund and our community. 2. The US federal court of appeals stopped the Fearless Strivers grant program for Black women on June 3rd ruling suggesting we were in violation of the law. This program has not been operating since it entered the appeals process back in September 2023 and it was at its conclusion of the grant program when the court case began August 2023, it was designed to award 6 people in one year and it was at its end when the case began. 3. We strategically avoided a Supreme Court ruling (the deadline to appeal our appeal has passed) because a ruling not in our favor at the Supreme Court would’ve ended minority based funding across the country and that would not be wise, we have already seen the Supreme Court ruling for the colleges end affirmative action for all colleges in schools and admissions. 4. Elections have consequences, we have had 3 federal rulings in this process where 4 Trump appointed judges ruled against us, 2 Clinton and 1 Obama appointed judges ruled for us. The writing is on the wall of who wants this work to continue and who does not. Be sure to vote November 5th! 5. This work is important because the statistics for the underfunded are overwhelming and this is why we have invested millions of dollars and awarded grants to over 500. 6. Any false narrative floating that anyone is claiming we are not moving forward at the Fearless Fund is not true, what is true is that we are proud to announce our new debt fund (our loan program is live on our website) for under resourced entrepreneurs- male and female! 7. The one grant program the US appeals courts stopped was funding 6 entrepreneurs, this new program will touch over 3000 entrepreneurs, that sounds like a WIN to me. WE ARE STILL FUNDING WE ARE STILL FEARLESS! #FEARLESSFREEDOM

Title: 🌟 A Transformative Week at Comprehensive Youth Development 🌟 This past week has been nothing short of transformative for me, and I'm eager to share the profound experiences and conversations that have deepened my commitment to Comprehensive Youth Development (CYD), where I proudly serve as the Board Chair. The highlight of my week was an inspiring yet sobering session where CYD students 🎓 engaged with city leaders 🏛️ to voice the obstacles they encounter daily. Imagine striving for your high school diploma while grappling with the skyrocketing cost of living in NYC 🏙️, navigating a new language 🗣️, and adjusting to a completely different cultural environment. These are just a few of the myriad challenges our students face every day. Furthermore, I had the honor of convening with our dynamic Board of Directors—a group passionately dedicated to breaking down these barriers. Under the leadership of Michael Roberts, our staff is tasked with crafting customized solutions for each student. At CYD, there isn't a one-size-fits-all approach. Our students come from diverse backgrounds, many as immigrants, each with unique needs and dreams. 🌍 Hearing our students talk about their lives not only moved us but also reignited our resolve to do more. These young individuals are here to learn, contribute, and build a life of quality as they explore post-secondary opportunities. They are determined to be productive citizens and future leaders despite the daunting challenges they face. Reflecting on this, I thought about how many of us had the privilege to pursue education without such barriers. Some of us might relate to a few of their challenges, but it's unlikely that we share all their experiences. This leads me to a crucial question that has been on my mind: What are we actively doing to impact a young life? 🤔 I invite you to ponder this question, engage with our cause, and see firsthand the incredible work being done at CYD. Comment 💬, share ➡️, and follow CYD’s journey. Learn how you can be part of supporting the next generation of leaders. Your involvement could make all the difference. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/d9zRRpua Let's continue the good work together for our youth, who deserve every opportunity we can provide. They are not just the leaders of tomorrow; they are the champions of today. 🤎🙏🏾✊🏽 Special thanks to: Michael Roberts Michael Urtuzuástegui Melcher Rebekah Wellons and all the Comprehensive Youth Development Board Members who show up for these students!! #youth #education #transformation #boardleadership #sustainability

Swipe to see leadership in action! 💥 Our Board of Directors met this week for an offsite retreat to discuss CYD’s mission, advocacy priorities, and how to support its growth and innovation. Thank you to Board Chair SoVonna Day-Goins and Executive Committee member Michael Urtuzuástegui Melcher for planning the day’s activities, and to Jessica Phillips and Atalaya Capital Management for hosting us. CYD is grateful to have such a dedicated and enthusiastic Board! #nonprofitboard #boardmanagement #nycnonprofit #cydnyc #collegeandcareer

This is how we create sustainable change by having our youth lead us! If we want Equity and Justice in Education, let’s give them the access to the tools they need to succeed.👩🏽💻💰⚖️

On Tuesday, April 16, CYD’s students spoke – and city leaders listened and responded – at our first Youth Perspectives forum since the pandemic. 🌟 Youth Perspectives gives young people a platform to speak directly to policymakers, educators, and funders about the issues of greatest concern to them. This year’s event took place at Goldman Sachs and centered on preparation for life after high school. Students and alumni from Manhattan Comprehensive Night And Day High School, City-As-School High School, High School for Health Professions & Human Services, and the CYD Career Academy at Borough of Manhattan Community College spoke eloquently and courageously about their personal experiences and what kinds of services were most helpful to them. Their perspectives highlighted several points: 1️⃣ Young people need to learn computer science in school in order to succeed in college and employment. 💻 2️⃣ Students need more paid internship opportunities. 💼 3️⃣ Students in all high schools would benefit from onsite college and career offices like CYD’s. 🎓 Thank you to all who made the day so inspiring: the student and alumni speakers; Borough President Mark D. Levine, who delivered a keynote speech highlighting the importance of the DOE’s Learning to Work internship program and the need for up-to-date technology training in public schools; and the distinguished group of leaders who responded to the youth panel: Deirdre Duke, Senior Advisor, Labor Relations, Northwell Health; Sunil B. Gupta, Vice President for the Division of Adult Continuing Education and Workforce Development, LaGuardia Community College; Kristen Harris, Executive Director of College and Career Planning Team, Office of Student Pathways, NYC Public Schools; Marjorie Parker, President and CEO, JobsFirstNYC; Abby Jo Sigal, Executive Director, NYC Mayor's Office of Talent and Workforce Development; Angel Vasquez, Governor’s Deputy Secretary for Downstate Intergovernmental Affairs; Anthony Watson, Executive Director, SUNY Manhattan Educational Opportunity Center.

Wondering where we have been? Out in our communities, solving real life problems with real people, and continuing to push for transformation across industries. It has been so lifegiving to continue our work IRL and stay rooted in tangible social impact, especially alongside young people! #Theatre #SocialSustainability #Changemaking #Community

🌟 Reflecting on a Journey of Impact and Innovation 🌟 As we celebrate International Women's History Month, I'm reminded of the journey that brought me here—a path marked by resilience, innovation, and a relentless pursuit of impact. As a Black woman in business, navigating the complexities of our world has been a journey of breaking barriers and setting new benchmarks. 🚀👩🏾💼 The recent honor at the Count Basie Theatre Gala is not just a personal milestone; it's a celebration of community, diversity, and the transformative power of the arts. My involvement in pivotal initiatives, like the merger between Count Basie and Phoenix Productions, and steering our arts community through the challenges of COVID, have been moments of profound growth and impact. It is also not lost on me that I was honored by an arts organization that is named after the legendary Count Basie.🎭💼 In this International Women's History Month, let's reflect on the strides we've made towards diversity and inclusion, and the work that still lies ahead. It's a call to action to continue pushing boundaries, championing equity, and leading with empathy and courage. 🌍✨ To my fellow entrepreneurs, creatives, and changemakers: How have you navigated your unique journey to make an impact in your field?
