Todd Consolascio, Director of Northern Farming shares insights into the farming tactics that help produce the sweet, seedless, easy-to-peel Wonderful Halos we know and love. "Starting in February, Wonderful Citrus applies nets across 7,500 acres of our mandarin trees. These nets must be installed before the first flowers open because certain mandarin varieties can produce seeds when cross-pollinated with other citrus. Wonderful Citrus uses bee nets to restrict bee access to the flowers, ensuring seedless fruit. Applying these nets requires significant coordination. Once flowering is complete, the nets are carefully removed, stored in the field, and typically last 5-7 years before needing replacement."

Ed Russell, Director of Soil & Irrigation for Wonderful Citrus, highlights the precision required for crop irrigation. "At Wonderful, we apply the right amount of water at the right time, exclusively using micro-irrigation. This precision is achieved through our broad network of physical and virtual weather stations, allowing us to use water more efficiently than the Food and Agriculture Organization and uniformity coefficient recommendations."
