Lucy Meyer, an international advocate for young people with disabilities was in Washington DC to attend a two-day meeting of the President's Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities. She is one of 20 members of the Committee appointed by President Biden. I’m excited to announce that I’ve teamed up with World Food Program USA on their “Erase Hunger” campaign to provide kids around the world with school meals that fuel them with the energy to play, learn, and grow. My goal is to raise enough funds between now and October 16 to send 100,000 school meals. And right now, your donation goes twice as far because I’m matching every dollar raised up to $25K. Together, we can make a make a big difference. Link to donate: https://lnkd.in/g8v2JjQy

Last week during UNGA 79, we were proud to host an important sponsored conversation – “In Her Hands: Technologies for Women-led Climate Resilience”– with co-sponsor Google.org. World Food Programme Executive Director Cindy McCain joined Google SVP of Research, Technology and Society James Manyika to discuss how World Food Programme and Google take bold steps to enhance food security and climate resilience through advanced AI technology. Following that conversation, WFP Goodwill Ambassador Andrew Zimmern moderated a panel discussion with WFP Assistant Executive Director Partnerships and Innovation, Rania Dagash-Kamara, Director of AI & Sustainability at Google.org, Brigitte Hoyer Gosselink, and Director of Agricultural Development at the Gates Foundation, Martien van Nieuwkoop. They dug into why private sector engagement is critical to climate resilience innovation and how programs focusing on women strengthen their capacity to contribute to food security. Today, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, World Food Programme, and World Food Program USA announced a new Commitment to Action to provide locally sourced school meals to children in Haiti at the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) 2024 Annual Meeting. Through this grant from the Church to World Food Program USA, WFP will scale up current school feeding programs in Haiti – at a crucial time. In Haiti, half of the population is struggling to find enough to eat – one of the highest proportions of acute food insecurity worldwide. Home-grown school meals provide much-needed nutrition to children and support their education, while sourcing food locally supports local economies and ensure program sustainability. In the upcoming school year, WFP plans to provide school meals to nearly 500,000 students, 70 percent of which will be made entirely with Haitian-grown ingredients purchased from local farmers. 🌎 Gender inequality is one of the top drivers of global hunger, often times leaving women and girls to eat last and least. With the help of the World Food Programme's school meals program, there is a 12% increase in girls' enrollment when they receive school lunches and take-home rations. It's because of school feeding that girls, like this little one in Ecuador, are able to attend class and learn to grow nutritious foods in their school gardens. 🌱💙 Learn more how you can support WFP's school meals here. ➡️ https://bit.ly/3ZkWZjk
