Healthcare and theater are not always the most likely duo. However, for the recent West Virginia Public Theatre production of Steel Magnolias, the partnership just made sense, as one of the main characters struggles with diabetes. Emily Smaniotto BSN, RN, CDCES, Diabetes Education Center coordinator, met with cast members to provide information on the disease, explain how it affects those living with it and their families, and answer any questions they had. The partnership also included an educational table for theatre patrons to learn more about the disease. Thank you to the West Virginia Public Theatre for the opportunity and to the Diabetes Education Center for their support of the production and our community. Pictured next to the resources table is diabetes educator Juliana Royse, MPH, RD, LD, CDCES.
