A promising new chemical antibiotic drug which acts against all major superbugs is undergoing phase-3 clinical trials globally. To me this looks like a progressive transition of the Indian Pharmaceutical industry from a generic to an innovator one. More than the profits, stock prices etc being talked about this drug named Zaynich (market potential of USD 25 billion), what excites me is the application of this new drug for anti-microbial resistance, a silent pandemic according to many global experts. 🌟 Thrilled to have been part of this impactful project! From designing and moderating the workshop to supporting the creation of this insightful white paper, it's been an incredible journey. 📄 The white paper delves into the slow progress in pediatric cancer research and drug development, highlighting the disparity in treatment advancements between children and adults with cancer. The shocking reality faced by families dealing with childhood cancer and the limited treatment options available is a significant concern. 🔍 Many barriers contribute to this slow progress, including financial disincentives for pharmaceutical companies and misaligned objectives between industry and academic researchers. Despite these challenges, determined parents and families often become powerful advocates, founding non-profit organizations to raise awareness and fund research. 🤝 Collaboration between NPOs, academia, and industry, alongside health authorities, is crucial for advancing pediatric cancer research. Recent years has seen effective collaborations, such as the development of tovorafenib, driven by the PLGA Foundation, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and Day One Biopharmaceuticals. This journey, culminating in FDA approval in 2024, serves as a model for advancing other pediatric cancer research. 💡 Our workshop on January 27, 2023, focused on defining the dynamics of collaboration among stakeholders. The future of any industry is inextricably linked to the qualities of the individuals within it... The requirements of our industry make this especially sensitive in biopharma - delivering commercial success hand-in-hand with exceptionally high ethical behaviours and practices. As such, biopharma more than any other, needs to focus on the selection and development of its leaders. We must have the courage to find the 'right' people first and support them to develop into these roles. Not to select the 'successful' people, and attempt to train these behaviours into them.

Umoja Biopharma Announces Publication in Blood Highlighting Successful Generation of In Vivo CAR T-cells in Non-Human Primate Modeling First landmark, peer-reviewed publication of successful in vivo CAR T-cell data in an immune competent NHP model Data validate the VivoVec™ platform in a translationally relevant model and support its transition into human clinical testing, offering a potential paradigm shift in the field of CAR T-cell therapies Key Study Findings VivoVec particles (VVPs) incorporating CD80 and CD58 costimulation proteins exhibit enhanced capacity for in vivo CAR T-cell generation and produce CAR T-cells with increased antitumor functionality compared to those produced from VVPs displaying anti-CD3 scFvs alone. Combining the anti-CD3 scFv together with the ligand binding domains of CD80 and CD58 into a single multi-domain fusion (MDF) protein markedly augments the particles’ ability to bind, activate, and transduce T-cells. I spoke with Rachel Nuwer, dedicated and carefull journalist, about the FDA's Psychopharmacologic Drugs Advisory Committee meeting of June 4th and the negative evaluation of Lykos Therapeutics Miodomafetamine (#MDMA) capsules. What should be evaluated, "drug efficacy" or "treatment efficacy"? These two stances are grounded in two differently epistemic premises, and each can consequently lead to implementation of radically different clinical practices, or even no implementation at all!
