About The Role

At New Story, we pioneer solutions to end the global housing crisis by empowering families to become land and homeowners in thriving communities. For the first 10 years of New Story, we’ve been communicators with a small c. We’re very proud of our brand, PR placements in prestigious places (Apple TV+, NYT, WSJ, etc.) and how we’ve communicated to our audiences, but we know there’s potential for so much more. Couple this with our organizational evolution from traditional charity-based model to market-based model over the last two years, and you start to see a massive opportunity to own and lead our space as one of the world’s top social enterprises. It’ll require a communication strategy with a capital C to open these big doors.

That’s where you come in. Starting with this role, we’re establishing a new intentionality around our story, brand awareness, external engagement, and positioning for the next 10 years. You’ll oversee all marketing, public relations, and external communications to further the organization’s objectives and campaigns. You’ll be both strategic and tactical in your efforts, pointing the organization in the right direction, starting small, testing, iterating and building on your efforts. You won’t be alone. You’ll work closely with our CEO, CDO and creative team to support your ideas, campaigns, and communications.

What You'll Do

  • Drive New Story’s narrative and influence, shaping our point-of-view on social entrepreneurship, impact investing, market-based solution, and philanthropy.
  • Partner with internal leaders to build New Story’s strategic communications plan in alignment with mission, vision, strategy, and programs.
  • Expand New Story’s reach and impact through strategic branding and messaging of the organization, its leaders, and its programs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key editors and influencers in top-tier media, especially in our networks and communities.
  • Work with internal leadership to develop their platforms and messaging via media training, developing content, securing interview opportunities and speaking engagements.
  • Design and roll out cross-functional campaigns to build New Story’s profile and reputation for our impact forward, innovative market-based solutions.

Who You Are

  • 10-20 years of experience in corporate communications, marketing, and/or public relations.
  • Experience creating and executing on corporate communications strategies.
  • Stellar written and verbal communication skills.
  • Extensive experience collaborating with C-level leaders and other senior executives on challenging corporate issues, and a proven track record of resolving them successfully.
  • Strong relationships with key media editors, influencers, allies, and related industry organizations in the U.S. and internationally.
  • Demonstrated experience tailoring communications plans to a variety of audiences, experience working with nonprofits audiences including high-networth individuals, foundations, and impact investors preferred.
  • An innovative approach to corporate communications, exploring the breadth of today’s media environment.
  • A strong track record of hiring the best talent and building highly efficient teams.

REPORTING STRUCTURE

This individual will directly manage the Director of Creative Operations who manages New Story’s Creative Team including copywriter, designer, and external contractors.

LOCATION & COMPENSATION

We are prioritizing candidates in the United States (remote welcome). Our range for this role is $140,000 - 220,000 USD to provide flexibility for candidate across the entire US and at varying levels of experience. Summer and Winter Time Off. We believe rest is critical to getting results. We intentionally pause as a whole company twice per year. Team member enjoy July Fridays off as well as a Winter Week closure between December 24 and January 1.

5-Week Sabbatical after 5th Year. At the 5-year mark, we celebrate your hard work and dedication with a sabbatical. Team members take 5 weeks off fully paid to rest, recharge, and reflect.

Paid Parental Leave. Primary caregivers are given 12 weeks paid time off. Secondary caregivers are given 6 weeks paid time off.

Adoption Reimbursement. For families who are willing to adopt, thank you! New Story will reimburse eligible team members up to $10,000 for adoption related expenses.

401k Investment Plan. New Story offers 401k investment plan so you can save money for the long-term.

Intentional Gatherings. As a remote team, we recognize how valuable and rejuvenating in-person time can be. Whether it’s an all-company Team Summit, Fun Camp for fundraisers, or spontaneous department gatherings, we set aside budget to gather in-person to have fun, reflect, and plan together.

Improve Thru Learning. We believe in always learning and leveling up our skills. Whether it's paying for a conference, an online course, or books, an internal Hackathon, a Tea(m) Talk, or a lunch and learn, we invest in each team member so they can be the best at their craft.

Trips to the Field. It’s amazing to meet the families we help and see the homes up close and personal. You'll get to visit the work first hand in either Mexico or El Salvador. Prioritization will vary by role.
