Our latest paper is now out in the Journal of Renal Nutrition https://lnkd.in/gpcFpKx8. It builds off our recent review highlighting shifting dietary phosphorus guidance for people with CKD https://lnkd.in/gX36w3at. In short, we performed a systematic review of patient-facing online resources for hyperphosphatemia management and major findings included: 1) Propensity for resources to restrict heart healthy foods including whole grains, nuts, seeds, and legumes 2) Inconsistency in messaging across many foods and categories 3) Limited discussion of strategies like bioaccessibility and demineralization More to come on this topic. Major thanks to Most Murshida Begum and David St-Jules for leading this project. Annabel Biruete, PhD, RD, FNKF, FASN Anthony Meade

This review by Navarro et al. dives deep into the role of carbohydrates in swine nutrition, offering insights for more efficient diet formulations. The study highlights how carbohydrates, the primary energy source in swine diets, are categorized based on polymerization levels into digestible (sugars, starch, glycogen) and non-digestible forms (fiber). Crucially, it unravels the complexities of non-digestible carbs, such as fiber, which undergo fermentation in the gut to produce short-chain fatty acids, beneficial for the pig's metabolism. The paper emphasizes the variability in fiber content across different feed ingredients, pointing out that understanding the structural and chemical properties of fiber can lead to better utilization of high-fiber, cost-effective feed alternatives. The researchers detail the fiber composition in cereals, oilseeds, and pulses, shedding light on their nutritional implications. This comprehensive analysis not only underscores the importance of accurate diet formulation in enhancing energy utilization from less expensive, fibrous ingredients but also projects a pathway towards more sustainable pork production by reducing reliance on costlier cereal grains. Read the full review for an in-depth understanding of how carbohydrate composition and structure impact swine diets. News bite !!! 🗞 According to a study conducted by the Singapore Institute of Food and Biotechnology Innovation, on the health benefits of plant-based meat seeing the growing popularity of plant-based meat analogues. The study wanted to find out the impact of these meat substitutes on cardiometabolic health that included heart, blood vessels and blood sugar, cholesterol. They found out that there were no added advantage of consuming plant-based meats but emphasized on the consumption of the plant-based diet over the omnivorous diet. As during the production of the substitutes, there is deconstruction and reconstruction of traditional plant-based foods that may introduce “potential unintended consequences on various health-promoting constituents inherently present in these plant-based ingredients”. In fact, the study, published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in April, based on the results of three days of continuous glucose monitoring, said that those on the animal-based diet had better glycemic control – an important consideration for diabetics. #SingaporeStudy #PlantBasedMeat #DiabetesRisk #HealthResearch #FoodConsultants #Foodbusinessconsultants Hitesh Tripathi

Let’s talk about different topics in #PoultryNutrition. #Xylanase 🌾 Maximizing Broiler Performance with Xylanase🐔 In the competitive world of poultry production, every efficiency gain matters. That’s where #xylanase steps in—an enzyme that’s transforming how we approach broiler nutrition. 🚀 Xylanase breaks down non-starch polysaccharides (NSPs), particularly arabinoxylans, in feed grains like wheat, barley, and rye. These NSPs are anti-nutritional factors that can hinder digestion and nutrient absorption. By adding xylanase to broiler diets, we unlock the full potential of these grains, leading to multiple benefits: ⚠️ Why xylanase is a game-changer: 👉🏻 Improved Digestibility: Xylanase enhances the breakdown of complex carbohydrates, leading to better nutrient absorption and utilization. The result? Broilers get more energy from every bite, boosting growth and overall performance. 👉🏻 Enhanced Feed Conversion Ratios (FCR): By improving nutrient digestibility, xylanase optimizes feed efficiency, reducing the amount of feed required for weight gain. This is a direct boost to your bottom line! 📈 👉🏻 Gut Health Support: Xylanase reduces the viscosity of digesta, promoting a healthier gut environment. This not only supports better digestion but also helps in maintaining a balanced gut microbiota, reducing the risk of digestive issues. 🦠 👉🏻 Sustainability: Better nutrient absorption means less waste. Xylanase contributes to a more sustainable production system by reducing nutrient excretion into the environment. 🌍 👉🏻 Cost Savings: With xylanase, you can reduce the reliance on expensive, high-quality feed ingredients while maintaining—or even enhancing—performance levels. It’s a smart investment in feed efficiency. 💰 Incorporating xylanase into your broiler feed strategy isn’t just a trend—it’s a proven way to optimize performance and sustainability. Curious about how xylanase can fit into your operation? Let’s connect and discuss how this enzyme can elevate your production to the next level! 🐓💼 #PoultryScience #AnimalNutrition #FeedEfficiency #SustainableFarming #Xylanase #Broilers #PoultryProduction #PoultryNutrition
