[PRESS RELEASE] A new report by ICF highlights how current projections for Sustainable Aviation Fuel production in Europe fall short of industry's ambitions. If current trends continue, Europe will likely need to import SAF to meet EU mandates – reducing Europe’s energy independence and undermining Europe’s competitiveness. Recommendations to change the tide include: ✈️ Unlocking private investments and reducing consumer costs through risk-sharing mechanisms ✈️ Enhancing financial support for advanced SAF facilities ✈️ Prioritising feedstock and renewable electricity access ✈️ Refining existing mechanisms and add flexibility Find the full report below: https://shorturl.at/hkv6O ACI EUROPE | Airlines for Europe (A4E) | Airport Regions Council | Aerospace, Security and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD) | European Regions Airline Association | General Aviation Manufacturers Association

Advancing Sustainable Aviation Fuel in Europe! ✈️🌱 Europe’s aviation industry is at a critical turning point. A new report by ICF, commissioned by six leading industry bodies, outlines seven essential policy measures needed to scale up Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production and strengthen Europe’s position in the global market. With the Clean Industrial Deal and Sustainable Transport Investment Plan (STIP) on the EU agenda, there is a key opportunity to implement these recommendations and drive meaningful progress. However, Europe risks falling behind as the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and China’s strategic investments create competitive disadvantages for SAF development. At ARC, we are proud to have played a role in shaping this critical study, which highlights the urgent need for a dedicated EU SAF industrial strategy. The time to act is now to secure a sustainable and competitive future for European aviation. 📖 Read the full report below! Geneva – The International Air Transport Association (IATA), together with the Air Transportation Systems Laboratory at University College London (UCL), the Air Transport Action Group (ATAG), the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) and the Mission Possible Partnership (MPP), released the Aviation Net Zero CO2 Transition Pathways Comparative Review. This is the first publication to compare 14 leading net zero CO2 transition roadmaps for aviation. The report aims to provide a “one-stop shop” for airlines, policymakers and all aviation stakeholders to better understand the key similarities and differences between the various roadmaps, and their visions for achieving net zero carbon emissions for aviation by 2050. Specifically, the report compares the selected roadmaps in terms of their scope, key input assumptions, modeled aviation energy demand, respective CO2 emissions, and the emissions reduction potential of each mitigation lever (new aircraft technologies, zero-carbon fuels, SAF, and operational improvements).

Decarbonisation of the Aviation Sector 🛫 There is a massive call for action, as there are conferences, seminars etc., but only a few well-structured meetings for an ambitious and effective exchange 🛫 The entire aviation industry needs to collaborate, across all stakeholders. Decarbonisation using sustainable aviation fuel must be a priority. 🛫 Two measures are in focus 👉 Defining a global regulatory framework, based on mandates and targeted governmental support 👉 In the short term, de-risking initiatives by investors, governments, private equity providers, operators and manufacturers need be launched to mobilise capital Very positive and inspiring exchange at the HOLM Conference ‘Sustainable Aviation’ with my colleagues Bernhard Dietrich and Dr. Ulrike Ziegler. Thx for having me! #CCAM #Aviation #SAF #aviationsustainability #decarbonisation

Aviation’s decarbonization requires more #CORSIA credits. Governments have a role in enabling the market for CORSIA’s carbon credits (or “EEUs”) and helping aviation's decarbonization journey. A scarcity of EEUs relates to the fact that to qualify as CORSIA-eligible, programs must receive approval from the ICAO Council. As of now, only two programs have received this approval. Learn more about governments’ crucial role in enabling airlines’ ability to comply with CORSIA to address CO2 emissions from international #aviation in the #WeeklyChart 👉 https://bit.ly/3LZcIfL

The European Union is grappling with significant challenges in its quest to lead the global sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) market, according to a comprehensive report released this month. The report, titled “European SAF Industrial Policy,” highlights the urgent need for the EU to bolster its industrial strategies to maintain competitiveness and achieve its climate targets. One of the report’s key findings is the intense global competition the EU faces, particularly from China and the US. Both countries have implemented aggressive industrial strategies that have accelerated investment in SAF. In contrast, the EU is hampered by higher electricity prices, construction costs, and lengthy permitting processes, which put it at a competitive disadvantage. The report, written by ICF and commissioned by Airlines for Europe (A4E), ACI EUROPE, Airport Regions Council, Aerospace, Security and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD), European Regions Airline Association and General Aviation Manufacturers Association, outlines a handful of policy proposals aimed at ensuring that Europe's #SAF market is duly developed and supported. https://lnkd.in/e5J7zkBA #EU #Transport #CompleteAccess
