Day 3 of the #arcticcongress at the final plenary session on Climate and the Environment looking through Arctic research and policy approaches. Here are the key strands that have stuck with me today, strengthening the case for our government to press on with truly progressive modes of governance starting at the local level: 🌁Need for representation of islands at infrastructure and national strategy decision making tables. Every. Single. Time. 🌍 Strengthening consideration of climate change across all decisions at every level. 📄 Stronger evaluation of the policies and plans on an iterative basis or we cannot understand the impacts they may or may not be having. 🗂️Organisational cooperation is the foundation for good governance, agreement is not. Who does what is important. 🗣️Communities and changing landscapes hold the answers about the trajectory of their Fate Control. That is where you while find the solutions to the issues that national and international policies have identified. #climatechange #goodgovernance #communitypolicy #local

Today we started a joint discussion on climate-smart governance with our regional stakeholders. Many important issues emerged during the discussion. One good advise was to connect the positive synergies between climate actions and economy. #LAB #RegionalCouncilofPäijätHäme #Interregeurope #ClimateGO #Climate #climatepolicy
The project’s first Finnish stakeholder group meeting was held today. In the discussions, it was pointed out that local decision-makers need more information about climate related issues and why climate-smart decision-making is important. To meet the target group´s needs, concrete examples of climate work and information about the positive synergies between climate and economy are needed. Thank you for the inspiring discussions and freshly started cooperation, #OsuuskauppaHämeenmaa #PäijätHämeRegionalBoard #LUT #RegionalCouncilofPäijätHäme #LAB Päijät-Häme municipalities It is good to continue from this to the next week's interregional meeting!

Extreme weather events have undermined stability and development around the world. This is particularly the case in the most vulnerable regions, where competition over increasingly scarce resources leads to tensions, conflict and population displacement. In his book, our Executive Director Andrew Gilmour explores a number of historical and contemporary links between #ClimateChange, conflict and security. He also examines how we can ensure that our efforts to address the climate crisis advance sustainable peace. The book also contains in-depth analysis of the security implications of climate migration, the energy transition and environmental peacebuilding. 📕: https://lnkd.in/gtASTFhN

How effective are coastal and terrestrial water sector interventions in achieving desired climate outcomes at various scales in developing countries? What factors influence the effectiveness of these interventions in developing countries? These two questions guided the IEU’s systematic review: “Coastal and terrestrial water sector interventions in developing countries.” Too busy to read the entire systematic review? Here is a brief that summarizes the review’s findings!

As the world watches, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) Advisory Opinion process has an opportunity to set a new standard for inclusive international legal processes and for climate justice. The outcome of these proceedings could reshape our approach to climate accountability and pave the way for a more equitable global response to the climate crisis. Ultimately, the true measure of success will be whether this process amplifies the voices of the most vulnerable and translates legal clarity into tangible action for climate justice.
