What are your thoughts on a having a Commissioner for Older People and Ageing in England? There are 11 million people aged 65 or over in England, but we do not have a Commissioner for Older People and Ageing, even though Wales and Northern Ireland do. It's time to change this. The U.K. already has Equality Act, it’s Protected Characteristics, and an insufficient regulatory framework prevents direct/indirect breaches from being addressed (including Age Discrimination for employment). Although Wales and Northern Ireland may employ at considerable expense a “Commissioner”, virtue signalling does not necessarily introduce structural change in society. Plus, the U.K. is already wasting £Billions per annum on Mayors, PCCs, and Mayoral Development Corporations without adding anything to the U.K. Plc.
They should start yesterday. 🤣

1moAgeism is bigger than racism so needs someone the current Agentcy’s and the like are doing nothing . I was recently on a scheme Westminster housing not realising till near completion that 60 odd units were for people of a certain age without any Agentcy involved. The age referred to was ridiculous 55+ , when we the team finished pissing ourselves laughing from that time we just chastised the team from Westminster housing . The team project manager 64 , Site Manager 68 , A,S, manager 58 , plus other team members in their 50s. With the increasing pension age companies need to retain knowledgeable, experienced workforce when they still have the attitude to employ just enough to tick the box ,making the excess redundant. Yes it’s time for change when everything else as already changed . There are many who would wish to carry on working but are unable due to the attitude of many industries.
