These resources have helped most of us to visualize, interpret and map distant planetary surfaces, leading to extraordinary discoveries. But, what about your colleague, friend or family member who is visually impaired or blind? How might these discoveries and observations be as powerful for them as it is for you? We ask questions like this all of the time so that people with disabilities can have the same experiences as people without, whether it is understanding what an asteroid or small body is, experiencing a lunar or solar eclipse, or using spectroscopy to determine the composition of a planet’s surface. For the last two decades we have been working with students, colleagues, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Federation of the Blind (NFB), teachers and parents to make earth and space science accessible for all." https://lnkd.in/gvdRqxeE

Did you know that being in space changes blood clotting and inflammation behavior in astronauts? Principal Investigator Hansjorg Schwertz, MD, PhD, MOH, CMRO, FACOEM, together with his team Marina Tristão and Neal Tolley from the University of Utah School of Medicine where selected by NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration Biological and Physical Sciences Division to perform the Megakaryocyte Flying - One (MeF1) experiment onboard the ISS to better understand this behavior. Pictured below is our recent experiment verification test - a last dry run on Earth before the exact same protocol with the exact same spaceflight hardware will be conducted in microgravity on the ISS later this year. #BlackHoleWeek Thursday Feature: Supermassive Black Holes Launch Newborn Radio Jets 🌌 In November 2020, a group of NRL researchers led a team of scientists who discovered some of the youngest known radio jets ever seen, launched by growing supermassive black holes in the centers of distant galaxies. These jets were estimated to be only decades old - this is infancy in the life span of space phenomenon! How could NRL scientists detect these jets at such an early stage? VLASS (Very Large Array Sky Survey) The age of the black holes offers a unique opportunity to study their formation and growth. This could help us understand how galaxies and black holes evolve together over billions of years. What is it about a total eclipse that holds such fascination for humans! Imagine what it did to our ancestors - fear for sure. What can’t be explained, often evokes fear. But then the phenomenon was explained and many still didn’t believe it. Fast forward, now that we are not in the dark, we want to understand its effects - no fear - to eclipse our #curiosity NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration is preparing for a mission to study how the sudden decrease in sunlight affects our upper atmosphere - three suborbital "sounding" rockets equipped with scientific instruments will be launched in succession – before, during the peak and one after – to measure changes in electric and magnetic fields, density, and temperature. Can’t wait to hear the cool findings!

Students at the University of Colorado Boulder's Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics can train to become command controllers who operate and manage spacecraft, including NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Imaging X-Ray Polarimeter Explorer (IXPE). From monitoring IXPE’s health and safety to sending commands to the spacecraft to look at cosmic objects at the request of scientists, these students are getting a one-of-a-kind hands-on experience. https://lnkd.in/gru-mvj4

Space amongst all the different fields of interest, Goddard Space Flight Center amongst all the different work places, and LISA of all the modern collaborative projects are special. Perhaps more so since they all utilize the whole length and breadth of modern academic and industrial expertise. This week we are relishing the nectar of ultraprecision metrology through the incredible presentations at the #LISASymposiumDublin. The energy and optimism of achieving the adoption milestones is omnipresent. These milestones might have been deemed difficult if not impossible merely a decade ago (pre-LIGO and Lisa Pathfinder era) and it took the best of collective global ingenuity by the #LISACommunity to see the light across the tunnel. It's a remarkable achievement to have LISA adopted as a project by European Space Agency - ESA, with NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration hopefully en route with its efforts in the last few months at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, as the team prepares for the SRR and KDP reviews. Here is wishing the #LISA Mission the best ahead from the #HumansOfLISA and the Technology Project Managers, Inc team at the Symposium. #GoLISA

BAE Systems and strategic partners L3Harris Technologies and the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) have been selected as one of three teams to mature technologies in support of NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Habitable Worlds Observatory (HWO) mission concept. HWO will be designed to seek out signs of life beyond our solar system and conduct transformational observations of the universe. Its goal is to identify and examine a promising sample of Earth-like planets orbiting other stars to determine if they could show signs of hosting life.
