Avelia, a 100% #sustainable #aviation fuel (SAF) may be key to helping airlines fulfill their commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050—making our view from above all the more enjoyable. To create #Avelia, a global, cross-function team from Accenture, Shell, and the Energy Web Foundation worked closely together. Accenture groups helped design, build and implement the #blockchain component of the platform. Avelia uses blockchain for transparent tracking of the different environmental attributes SAF delivers for the aviation fueling network. At launch, Avelia became the largest SAF book-and-claim platform, offering around 1 million gallons of SAF. That’s enough to power almost 15,000 individual business traveler flights from London to New York. Read more: https://lnkd.in/dENFzhtW
For the first time ever, a jet powered by 100% #sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) flew across the Atlantic on low-carbon fuel. We partnered with others to create Avelia, a green fuel platform, which makes it easier for airlines to access SAF and reduce their emissions. Investments on SAF availability is crucial because it's a more eco-friendly alternative to conventional aviation fuel. It's made from renewable resources like plant oils, waste fats, or even agricultural residues, reducing overall carbon emissions from flights. SAF can significantly help in curbing the aviation industry's environmental impact by decreasing greenhouse gas emissions and dependency on fossil fuels. Ève Laurier Carlo Terreni

Making travel sustainable is one of the toughest challenges in our industry, but it’s made harder by those who don’t think it to be a plausible goal. I don’t believe that – and luckily, neither does Virgin Atlantic! Virgin Atlantic’s Flight 100 made history this November – breaking barriers by being the first commercial plane to fly with 100% sustainable fuel (SAF) in both engines across the Atlantic. After more than a year of cross-industry collaboration, the flight travelled from London Heathrow to JFK International Air Terminal. Not only did it prove that SAF can replace fossil fuels entirely – it also served as a call to action to support the increase of SAF production. It’s heartening to think how Flight 100 may change minds across the world – bringing us one step closer to a sustainable travel industry, but what do you think? I’d love to hear your thoughts. #ACETravel #VirginAtlantic #TravelIndustry #SAF #SustainableFuel #NewYorkJFK

Upon reflecting on my 22 flights this year, totaling 66 hours in the air and resulting in 5.3 tons of CO2 emissions according to Flightradar24, the significance of advocating for sustainable travel practices becomes increasingly apparent. In my personal view, with the growing adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuels by international air carriers, airports are likely to enter a phase of competition to expand the corresponding infrastructure. To attain hub status, countries in the Central Asian region may need to embark on comprehensive initiatives geared towards embracing and investing in sustainable aviation practices.
