Christmas parties and festivities have officially commenced 🥂🎄 Whilst everyone has been busy planning how their workplace will celebrate this year, we would like to remind everyone to ensure they have provided notice of their Christmas shut down periods. Most Modern Awards and agreements require employers to provide a minimum of 4 weeks' notice! How are you celebrating the holiday season with inclusivity in mind at your company? Anahita Crawford, Sr. Director and Global Head of DEI at Arm and a member of the Senior Executive DEI Think Tank, shared her company’s approach: “We have several religious employee community groups as well as culturally focused employee resource groups, all of which have key moments that their constituencies acknowledge and celebrate throughout the year. One of the intentional shifts we’ve made for the Westernized holiday/winter season, where we have a higher number of holidays and festivities concentrated in a short period of time, is to communicate a broader holiday messaging while still enabling the communities and resource groups to celebrate and acknowledge their moments. This means educating the broader workforce on why we say ‘Happy Holidays’ vs. only ‘Merry Christmas’ or ‘Happy Hanukkah.’ It’s understanding that holidays are the bigger overarching umbrella of all the celebrations our organization acknowledges and honors. It’s not ‘one or the other,’ but a ‘yes, and’ approach that’s mindful and inclusive of all.” Conversations like this are happening every day in our DEI Think Tank. Christmas is fast approaching with the sound of Jingle bells in the air and office parties taking place. The last work week before Christmas can be a hard week to concentrate and focus when you are thinking of Christmas plans and things you have to to do in preparation for the festivities. Before you leave your desk for the festive celebrations. 1. Complete any unfinished tasks that need doing. (You don't want to be thinking about what you should have done and need to do work wise on Christmas Day). 2. Clean out your desk. This is a great way to get rid of the old, ready for the new year coming. 3. Take a minute to look back on your past year and write down the good points and the points you want to improve or change. 4. Take time to check in with colleagues, not everyone has family and friends they can spend this time with.

Compulsory vs Optional Christmas Parties 🤔🎄🎉 Our recent Christmas party survey highlighted that 100% of employees would prefer their company Christmas party to be optional as opposed to compulsory. In 2023, it is surprising to see how many employees feel forced to attend company social events such as Christmas parties. While the tradition of hosting a festive party may seem like a huge benefit to employees from a business perspective, it’s crucial to consider whether it suits everyone’s preferences and personalities in the modern day and age.
