Charities always appreciate when Will-makers leave a gift in their Will to them. However, the only way a charity can receive anything from a Will-maker’s Estate is if they clearly identify/name the charity in their Will. If the deceased dies without a Will, under the rules of intestacy, a charity cannot receive a cent from the deceased’s Estate. National Mixed Breed Day encourages us to celebrate, embrace and save mixed breed dogs. We love them so much we recognize this holiday twice a year-on July 31 and December 2. Desperately longing for a new home, millions of loving and healthy mixed breed dogs in shelters wait for someone to come and adopt them. Approximately 3.3 million dogs enter shelters every year, according to the ASPCA. Each one needs a home. Ivana Miseva, part of the rescue team at Pawpers in the Ruff in Macedonia, recently shared a video that gives us a glimpse into their world. It's a world where they conduct many of their rescues - the notorious dump. As you watch the video, try to imagine the heart-wrenching scenes they encounter daily: dozens of dogs, some starving, others in dire conditions, and many who've never known the touch of a caring hand. The Pawpers in the Ruff team face difficult decisions daily, all while striving to care for as many dogs as possible with limited resources. Their passion for these animals fuels their determination to save lives, even while juggling permanent jobs and family responsibilities. With over 150 dogs in their care, rescued from dire conditions, their dedication knows no bounds. Their selfless dedication often comes with significant challenges and sacrifices. We must ensure that incredible women like Ivana receive the acknowledgment, respect, and resources they need to continue their life-saving work. As winter wraps its chilly arms around us, it’s the stray souls without a shelter that weigh heavily on my heart. ❄️🐾 Animals, our silent companions on this Earth, often bear the brunt of the season’s harshness without a voice to ask for help. Empathy towards these creatures is more than a feeling; it's a call to action. Seeing an animal braving the cold without refuge is a stark reminder of their vulnerability and our responsibility. It stirs a profound desire in me to extend a hand of warmth and safety to these beings who ask for so little yet give so much. I advocate for adoption, not just as a means to find a pet, but as a life-saving gesture for the many animals who call the streets their home. Each adoption is a life transformed. Imagine the countless tails that could wag in the warmth of a loving home, the purrs that could fill rooms instead of empty alleyways. So, let’s not just walk by. Let’s stop, let’s care, and let’s act. Whether it’s setting up a feeding station, providing a makeshift shelter, or opening our homes, every small act of kindness resonates with the spirit of the season. I encourage you to join me.
