The nursing profession's quest for a promising future is akin to understanding that our unity is our greatest strength. In the evolving landscape of nursing, a historical challenge has been the division between veteran nurses in leadership positions and those newly entering the field. This has led to division of perspectives, reluctance to embrace new ideas and advancements while holding on to past practices, and satisfaction, which hinders the path to a brighter future for our profession. In my opinion, without addressing the crucial aspect of unity within our ranks, progress will remain limited. The act of investing in our future is a collective responsibility rather than an individual endeavor. Creating inclusive systems that welcome all nurses, irrespective of their rank, experience, or gender, is key to shaping a successful future. Only through unity can we leave a lasting legacy for the next generation of nurses. Despite the challenges that may arise and the unattainability of our goals in a flash of time, perseverance is essential, as giving up equates to accepting defeat. The responsibility of advancing the future of nursing lies upon our shoulders, and it is our duty to propel it forward, no matter the pace. Each nurse's contribution in advocating for progress paves the way toward a brighter tomorrow for the nursing profession. By empowering nurses to recognize their value, embody their calling, and pursue personal growth unapologetically, we can collectively advance the field toward a brighter future. Here are few points I hope resonate with you: Nurses can invest in the future of their profession by; 💡Continuously seeking opportunities for learning and growth. 💡Building relationships with mentors and peers can provide valuable support and knowledge sharing. 💡Collaboration with healthcare colleagues which can aid innovative solutions and better patient care. 💡Advocating for improvements in workplace conditions and resources. 💡Engaging in research and applying evidence-based practices can elevate the quality of patient care. 💡Embracing technological advancements in healthcare can improve efficiency and patient outcomes. 💡Pursuing leadership roles within the nursing community can drive positive change and advancement. 💡Promoting a positive public perception of nursing through advocacy and community involvement can help attract and retain the value of nursing profession. 24 Real World Nursing Tips for New Nurses in 2024: Real Talk! My personal tip list from over 20 years of experience in Emergency medicine, education & leadership! 1.    Take care of yourself 2.    Take your time off, do not be a hero! 3.    Do NOT work 4 consecutive (12) hour shifts in a row 4.    Follow the Policies & Procedures 5.    Don’t take shortcuts- Do the right thing! 6.    Talk to your patients & actually LISTEN to them 7.    Please TOUCH/Assess your patient! (do not falsify documentation, not all Respirations are 18 in triage, please STOP) 8.    TAKE YOUR BREAK (it’s a 24-hour operation) 9.    If you are a new ER nurse, try not to work on Mondays, the day after a holiday, or on St Patrick’s day! You’ll thank me later! 10. SCAN your MEDS & still double check all the rights, however many  medication rights they have now. 11. Advocate for yourself, your colleagues, and your patients! 12. Talk less, work more 13. Do not hang out in the break room unless you want to hear a lot of complaining! 14. Do not get involved in drama or politics. 15. Set boundaries with everyone, patients, colleagues, leadership. 16. Don’t take no mess from nobody! 17. If they try to bully you, set them straight and put them in their place. 18. Your Coworkers are NOT YOUR FRIENDS, they will throw you under the bus the first chance they get! real talk (you are not at work to make friends) 19. ASK for HELP (its ok! It does not make you less of a Nurse, in fact it makes you a better nurse) 20. If a physician does not want to come assess a patient your concerned about, you can call a rapid response, OR document in the chart. You may see them shortly after 😊 21. Go to conferences! 22. Join a Nursing organization! 23. Get multiple mentors! Be a Mentor! 24. Get a Nurse Career Coach, like me 😊 . Yet, 69% of nurses say their organization’s CNA workforce is “understaffed” or “very understaffed”. Interesting stat uncovered in the Models of Care Insight Study conducted in collaboration with Quint Studer and Healthcare Plus Solutions Group. Our research highlights CNAs as a pivotal role, but many hospitals are understaffed in this area.
