Circle of Young Humanitarians are doing very important awareness work on a daily basis. I had the pleasure of creating a small ad for them in 2021. 'Armed conflicts have rematerialized in Europe and beyond. The Circle of Young Humanitarians aims to address young people's views on armed conflicts and other humanitarian emergencies. We stimulate important discussions and promote open dialogue on global humanitarian challenges by building a bridge between the humanitarian world and the next generation.' https://lnkd.in/eDdeXGk2 https://lnkd.in/eJzPvTfd

Caribbean Civil Society seeks a stronger voice in defining sustainable development priorities in small island states, and a recognition of the vital the role they can play. "The Caribbean We Want" is a document developed by Caribbean Civil Society outlining priorities to feed into the SIDS4 conference in May 2027. We are asking governments and business to recognise 1) the role of civil society in transition 2) that economic development is a lot about small and micro enterprises, not just big business 3) that justice is critical, and needs to be integrated into development plans and governance We need a shift in mindset so that government work with civil society. https://lnkd.in/e8rcu9me Go check out the SIDS4 site (https://lnkd.in/eqwj4dg6), and of course the CANARI website (www.canari.org) or write to Canari at sids4@canari.org

What works effectively for long-term success in safe drinking water? Community participation. That's the No. 1 thing it takes, UBC alum Karl Zimmermann found in making his documentary. Karl's "Water, Together" premiers this Mon, Aug 12 at the IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition. Watch the trailer: https://lnkd.in/gP-aqKdU Karl's aim is to share the film's messages from community leaders around the world, talking in their own voices and languages, with global policy makers and NGOs involved in UN SDG 6 (water sanitization and hygiene). Karl says: communities themselves must be the ones to address values-based decisions, such as: Who deserves new infrastructure when it becomes available? And, should everyone pay the same amount of money for water fees? The film is the culmination of his UBC PhD research. Introducing “Water, Together” a #documentary #film sharing voices of #water leaders worldwide, on three tools to empower #participation in water management: Awareness, Education, and Resources. It was a privilege to learn from inspiring water leaders at #NGOs, nursing centres, government, schools, and community members. Across five continents, their message was similar: long-term success in safe drinking water solutions comes from #partnerships to involve all, which is possible through empowerment to participate . #WaterTogether shares the stories and recommendations on how that is possible. Join us at the International Water Association tradeshow booth at the #WorldWaterCongress2024 in #Toronto, Canada at 12:15 pm on #Monday Aug 12th for the official #premier of Water, Together. Thanks to all of my partners, to the water leaders featured, and the hundreds others who took time to share their stories: Tatirano Social Enterprise, Get Water Uganda, S M Sehgal, INREM Foundation, Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology (CAWST), EcoSwell, ENPHO, Helvetas Nepal/ Helvetas, UNICEF, Sandec-Eawag. And thanks to UBC Studios for producing the film (which was a super fun project to be a part of!) and to The University of British Columbia for project funding.
