The Aerosol, Clouds and Trace Gases Research Infrastructure (ACTRIS-RI) officially became the 33rd European Research Infrastructure Consortium (#ERIC) on April 25, 2023 with the support of seventeen founding memberand observer countries, including the Netherlands. ACTRIS-NL is supported by the Ministerie van Infrastructuur en Waterstaat, and Ruisdael Observatory. The Ruisdael Observatory site in Cabauw is an official ACTRIS labelled observatory platform. Ruisdael Observatory is also involved in two national facilities of ACTRIS: the #CCRES (centre for cloud remote sensing), led by Herman Russchenberg, and the #CREGARS (centre for reactive trace gases remote sensing), led by Arnoud Apituley. As a pan-European legal organisation, ACTRIS ERIC will coordinate the provision of data and data products on short-lived atmospheric constituents and #cloudsrelevant to climate and air #pollution over the next 15-20 years. A newly published article describes the mission of ACTRIS, its added value to the community of atmospheric scientists, providing services to academia as well as the public and private sectors, and to summarise its main achievements of the last twenty years: https://lnkd.in/e-djPvuj #ClimateChange #ClimatePollution #AirPollution Delft University of Technology | KNMI - Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute

#Marinepower, #data, and service solutions provider Ocean Power Technologies, Inc. (OPT) announced its selection as part of a team awarded the NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (#NOAA) #Professional, #Scientific, and #Technical Services (ProTech) #Oceans Domain Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract. This award positions OPT within avgroup of service providers supporting NOAA’s #mission to understand and predict changes in #climate, #weather, oceans, and coasts. Under the terms of the contract, OPT will contribute its advanced #technologies, including the PowerBuoy systems and WAM-V autonomous surface vessels, to support NOAA’s research and operational missions. The contract has a minimum duration of five years, with an early potential of several million per year in revenue. The overall ProTech IDIQ has a ceiling of 8 billion providing ample opportunities to supply into NOAA. Philipp Stratmann, CEO and President of Ocean Power Technologies, said, "We are honored to support NOAA's essential work in #oceanic and #atmospheric #science. This contract is a testament to OPT’s commitment to delivering #innovative and reliable #solutions that can withstand the demanding conditions of marine environments. We look forward to working closely with NOAA to advance the understanding and sustainability of our oceans." This IDIQ award is a mandatory-use vehicle for NOAA and may also be utilized by other bureaus within the U.S. Department of Commerce. It allows for a variety of contract types, including firm fixed price, cost reimbursement, and time and materials, providing flexibility in how services are delivered and managed. #mai #marineacoustics #technology #innovation #science #research #marinescience #oceanscience #capability https://lnkd.in/e2b-mUm7

Map, Model, and Monitor Biodiversity on Offshore Wind Sites. Opinions shared are my own and do not necessarily reflect that of my employer.
I'm always cynical of the term #DigitalTwin, especially when applied to something as complex as the ocean. But these are the real deal! Our aim here is to help people understand how areas of the ocean will respond to different pressures. For example, this may be long term risks due to climate change, coastal risks to communities, or ecological change due to placement of assets like #OffshoreWind farms. Whatever it is, it starts with a baseline to answer the question, "What exists in the area now?" This can be represented in 3D to help people understand the context of information. Then it continues with long term data acquisition, monitoring key parameters. This change over time supports modellers and data scientists to make more accurate forecasts. Helping to develop multiple scenarios of the future. Engineers and environmental scientists have produced forecasts and scenarios for many years. But it's the speed, accuracy, and continious integration of new data of large spatial areas to represent the real world that differentiates these Digital Twins. #OceanScience #Hydrography #CoastalResilience #GeoData #UnlockingInsights #Fugro

Senior Researcher at DTU Wind. Privatdozent/Lecturer at TU Darmstadt. Expert in computational materials science, wind energy technology, composites and nanomaterials
Registration for 5th Annual Symposium on Leading Edge Erosion of Wind Turbine Blades ( 6-8 February 2024, https://lnkd.in/ebcpFVKN ): the regular registration fee is applicable up to December 1st, 2023. After that, the late registration fee will be applied. We still have ~20 seats remaining. This year, we will pay special attention the “Quantification of leading edge erosion” (several presentations and a special discussion on quantification, lead by David Maniaci, Sandia National Laboratories), as well as to roughness of blade surface (roughness estimation, evolution, prediction, effect on performance). Maintenance and repair of wind turbines are permanent topics of our symposia, and it will include presentations from Force Technology, Aerones and Lebo Robotics. Several new protective solutions will be presented, including the bioinspired material by Helicoid Industries Inc., metallic protection from ORE Catapult, and self-healing materials by Fraunhofer IFAM. #renewableenergy #composites #windenergy #windturbine #offshore #wind #windenergie #blades #energy #wind #leadingedge #dtuwindenergy #duraledge #leadingedge #leading_edges #erosion #erosioncontrol
