Have you registered your apprentices? 🛠 Registration runs through September 6, 2024, at 11:59PM These contests are an opportunity for Masonry, Electrical, Plumbing, and HV/AC-R Registered Apprentices and Carpentry Pre-Apprentices from across the state to test their skills and knowledge, win prizes, and make lasting connections with fellow tradespeople. Note: Contestants MUST be approved for contest participation by an employer or sponsor recognized by ApprenticeshipNC or the Apprentice Contest Committee. Apprentices do NOT register themselves. Masonry Apprentice Contest: Limited to current apprentices who have completed less than 6,000 hours of training through an ANC recognized program. Electrical Apprentice Contest: Limited to 3rd and 4th year apprentices (contestants must have 4001 on-the-job learning hours under their belts to qualify) in an ANC recognized program. Plumbing Apprentice Contest: Contest limited to current apprentices who have completed less than 8,000 hours of training in an ANC recognized program. HV/AC-R Apprentice Contest: Limited to current apprentices who have completed less than 8,000 hours of training in an ANC recognized program) Carpentry Pre-Apprentice Contest: Must be a current pre-apprentice in a program with related curriculum.

"Our 8-week training program transforms individuals with no prior industry experience into HVAC certified maintenance technicians." While I commend the introduction of new training or apprenticeship programs, it's important to take a closer look at this statement. Becoming EPA Section 608 certified involves studying a 28-page booklet and achieving a 70% passing score on a multiple-choice test. While passing this test is necessary to legally handle refrigerants, it does not equip individuals with the practical HVAC troubleshooting knowledge required in the field. A proficient apartment maintenance technician needs a strong foundation in various areas, including plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), carpentry, drywall, appliances, and general repairs. Developing a robust skill set in these areas takes years of experience and practice. Although 2-3 month-long apprenticeship programs are an excellent starting point, addressing the shortage of qualified maintenance personnel will require years of continuous effort and commitment. Electricians with qualifications from overseas who wish to complete the Domestic Electrician Experienced Worker Assessment can soon get their skills and knowledge mapped against UK standards, thanks to work between TESP and international qualifications recognition body Ecctis Ltd. The mapping process reviews an applicant’s electrical qualifications from outside of the UK to verify which technical knowledge from their home country is transferrable and aligned to the knowledge units of the Domestic Electrician apprenticeship standard. It provides the applicant with an official ‘Industry Skills Statement’ which can then be used to embark on the Experienced Worker Assessment, filling in any knowledge or training gaps before having their practical competence assessed on UK-based projects. The electrotechnical industry already has a long-standing relationship with Ecctis for mapping of overseas electricians against the Installation & Maintenance Electrician apprenticeship standard. Now, after recent development work by TESP and Ecctis, from 02 January 2024 those with purely domestic experience can now get their qualifications mapped in preparation for the Domestic Electrician EWA. What is the most destructive thing to happen to the electrical industry over the last 20 years imho??? Part P and the domestic installer mechanism blended with short course training. This led to inclusion within the electrical trade of kitchen fitters, plumbers and many others without the core training actual electricians hold. The original intentions around stopping DIY and rogue unregistered, unqualified people was admirable. But the areas Part P applied shrank on each revision and the route to “qualify” as a domestic installer became ever shorter. It started to deliver exactly what it hoped to stop. In turn training providers shifted course delivery from longer form apprenticeship based models to faster, more expensive and shorter training. What we have seen during the failure of options skills and the state of many other training providers formed its roots due to the above. This is not revolutionary or a revelation it’s old news. Very old news, so old I left a certain trade association back in the mid 2000s over exactly this issue. Nearly as old news as the devaluation of EICRs, even this boring old electrician had YouTube videos and posts stretching back nearly a decade moaning about it, yet some suggest the problem begun during the PRS EICR drive. https://lnkd.in/ekC6N6kc Some use the above as a stick to beat industry with today, from frustration no doubt and possibly to raise one’s own profile. Industry has accepted this issue and has shifted focus away from those approaches. The results will take years to see but with a return to 48 month apprenticeships, awerness around rogue training providers, tightening of the EAS specification, the emergence of renewable technologies and a change across building regulations we can have some cause for positivity imho. Solutions to the problems are always the difficult part and working with industry this last few years I can see and respect the determined effort many volunteers have in steering that ship towards a better target. In that aim Apprentice 121 exists both online and in the real world. Putting tens of thousands of pounds back into industry each and every year. Electricians keep our lights on, literally! But becoming a master electrician takes dedication and serious skills. Here's a breakdown of their journey: ⚡️ Apprenticeship: It all starts with learning the ropes. Electrician apprenticeships typically last 4-5 years or 9,000-10,000 hours (Skills Trade Ontario) plus a 6-month classroom instruction with hands-on training under a licensed electrician. They learn electrical theory, safety codes, and installation techniques. Going to the next stage will have them require a journeyman's certification. ⚡️ Experience: After the apprenticeship and upon passing the certification, electricians become journeyman electricians. This is where they gain valuable real-world experience by working on various electrical projects. This can take a minimum of 3 years, racking up thousands of work hours to be eligible for the master electrician exam. ⚡️ Master Electrician Exam: The final hurdle! To become a master electrician, they need to pass a comprehensive exam testing their advanced knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and practices. This ensures they have the expertise to handle complex electrical systems and even supervise other electricians. Becoming a master electrician takes years of commitment and a passion for the trade. We are have some exciting apprentice opportunities. We are looking for an apprentice to provide support to our Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) Manager whilst working towards a Level 3 Safety, Health and Environment Apprenticeship qualification. The majority of your time will be spent undertaking the following duties: · Provide administrative support to the SHEQ Manager in relation to all H&S documentation, including the creation and maintenance of project H&S folders. · Maintenance of the training matrix and booking courses. · Undertaking and keeping records of toolbox talks. · Assist in organising any medical related assessments for employees (for example, lung, hearing and skin assessments). · Assist with keeping company accreditations updated · Assist in carrying out risk assessments and method statements. · Carry out on-site inspections in relation to SHEQ related matters. · Investigating accidents, near misses and workplace hazards. We work on many construction sites in East Anglia and London and therefore a full UK driving licence would be beneficial. As well as an apprentice to work within our busy design department whilst undertaking an apprenticeship in Engineering Design and Draughting Level 3. You will learn to produce plans, elevations and sections using AutoCAD software in line with Architects and Engineers designs and specifications and will gain an understanding of the entire construction process following completion of design. You must have a keen interest in construction, specifically in the architectural aluminium/structural glazing field, and have a genuine interest in technology or design. Strong mathematical skills and an ability to demonstrate strong attention to detail are essential. 20% of your time will be spent undertaking off the job learning. This includes online lessons with the apprenticeship provider, undertaking guided learning and a preparing a range of assignments. You must have 5 GCSEs at Grade A-C/4-9 including English and Maths.
