Randall Atkins bought the Brook Mine in Wyoming for about $2 million, basically the price of a nice house in Arlington, VA, but it turns out that the mine is a source for rare-earth elements which could be worth as much as $37 billion, The Wall Street Journal, reported today. According to the Journal, “The U.S. consumed an annual average of 8,300 metric tons of rare earth oxides in recent years." But estimates have it that, “as much as around 1.1 million metric tons of rare-earth oxides [exist] in just over a quarter of the nearly 16,000 acres of land that compose the site.” China is currently the principal source for #rareearths mining and processing. It looks like that may change soon enough with the possibility of a processing plant in Wyoming. Once and if that enterprise gets underway, “it would be the first new rare-earths mine in the U.S. since 1952." Found elements include neodymium, praseodymium, and terbium, but also gallium and germanium, the exports of which China has recently restricted to the United States. "There is a long way to go before the U.S. or Ramaco is able to benefit from the deposit,” the Journal says. "The company hopes to disclose the economics of the project in the next several months.” This find might be better--for a while, at least--than a gold mine. METC stock today, 11/10/23 at $17.47 (still a bargain, I bet).

The physical market for #copper is “very, very tight and now in deficit,” says Ivanhoe Mines boss. New mines will be needed. #EST’s core strategy is #copper. We’re working to discover and define resources with both near term development potential in VMS and, now, world class scale potential with the porphyry strategy in conjunction with the BHP Xplor programme. #MiningNews #Exploration #CriticalMinerals

The USA is looking to revive its Bureau of Mines. Today, mining policy is decided by multiple agencies, including the Bureau of Land Management, the Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Mine Safety and Health Administration. Supporters argue that the Bureau would bring more accountability, transparency, and efficiency when it comes to decisions made relating to mining in the US. #Mining #Policy #USA #CriticalMinerals https://lnkd.in/ghxnMEGb

We've received payment of $3.3 million from Saskatchewan Research Council for sale of stockpiled rare earth material, as announced last month. The sale was facilitated by Natural Resources Canada relating to our stockpiled rare earth material derived from a previous mining campaign on Nechalacho’s North T deposit. We remain focused on developing the Tardiff deposit at Nechalacho and will deliver a Scoping Study for Tardiff in CY2024. Managing Director Lisa Riley said: “Our sale of stockpiled material to SRC is now complete, allowing Vital to derive value from our earlier work at Nechalacho. This allows us to focus on development of Tardiff as a long-life, large-scale rare earths project. A Scoping Study is the next logical step in our pathway and we are on track to deliver the study by the end of 2024. “We expect our newsflow to increase over the coming months as we work towards and achieve milestones towards its completion.” Read the full ASX Announcement here: https://lnkd.in/gRZPRcYe #VML #VitalMetals #REE #rareearths #Canada #ASX #ASXNews

Big news out of Arizona this morning with Max Power Mining Corp #MAXX #MAXXF confirming the discovery of near-surface lithium-rich clays over a large area of their Willcox Playa property. Notably, they've also successfully separated the lithium from the clay through their collaboration with UC Berkley. NR: https://lnkd.in/gXwPyBbV Highlights: -Each of the first three triangular-spaced drill holes in the northern section of MAX Power’s property, the Discovery Zone covering an area 1,640 feet x 1,640 feet x 2,300 feet, intersected lithium at shallow levels over significant widths, including 15.5 feet grading 774.8 ppm lithium within a broader whole rock interval of 184 feet averaging 570.8 ppm lithium in drill hole WP-23-02 -When separating the clay fraction from the sand/silt fraction, lithium assays increased markedly, by as much as 47%, assaying up to 1,447 ppm lithium -This early-stage discovery remains open in all directions with MAX Power also exploring options to expand its land package -Based on a compilation of MAX Power’s work to date, and historical data, geologists believe the Discovery Zone represents just a fraction of the scale potential of Willcox with higher-grade mineralization expected in areas of increased clay content. #Mining #Lithium #EV #BatteryMetals

George Ogilvie, P.Eng., Arizona Sonoran Copper Company President and CEO commented, “The new Parks/Salyer deposit, inclusive of MainSpring could be transformational for the Company as we foresee the opportunity to right size a larger operation and rescope Parks/Salyer to an open pit mine. The pending result would lead to reduced mining execution risks and lowered operating costs which could manifest themselves in improved Project economics. The key difference in the larger mineral resource used for the pending PEA, relates to the MainSpring property acquisition and subsequent inferred drilling program identifying the continuation of near surface mineralization south of Parks/Salyer.” Douglas Bowden, Arizona Sonoran Copper Company VP Exploration stated, “Our Cactus Project is a successful copper porphyry growth story resulting from an aggressive exploration program. Our mineral resource journey began with our initial PEA in 2021, and continuously expanded outward from the Cactus Pit area to include Parks/Salyer and most recently MainSpring within the 5.5 km mine trend. The Parks/Salyer discovery includes significant quantities of high-grade (+1.00% CuT) copper, similar to the grades in Cactus East (as shown in FIGURES 2 and 3). Through systematic step out and infill drilling following our first mineral resource in 2021 to today’s update, our Cactus Project MRE indicates an increase to the M&I by an impressive 353%, from 1.61 Billion lbs to 7.29 Billion lbs of copper, while the inferred mineral resources increased 94%, from 1.98 Billion lbs to 3.84 Billion lbs. Lastly, these mineral resource areas have responded favorably and impressively to infill drilling with a consistently high conversion rate into higher resource classifications and will look forward to future infill programs as we move through the technical studies."
📢 ASCU today releases its updated Mineral Resource Estimate for the Cactus #copper project. InSAR’s ability to track #groundmovements at scale with mm/year level precision can help #mineoperators and councils to constantly track legacy #mining sites for any abnormal movement. As an example, we analysed the #Golborne town for mining-related #groundmovement through our #InSAR data visualisation portal; #SatShop and found some interesting #groundmovement patterns: 🔵 As with quite a few #mining areas in the UK, the area is facing the impact of #groundwater movement causing the ground to #heave at a steady rate ⌛ The time history of movements shows a steady upward movement from 2015 onwards, the movement is over 100mm specifically in the #BankHeath area 🔴 And while the entire town’s ground is moving up, #Golborne Industrial Park near the ‘Bonk’ (the location for the former colliery) is showing signs of downward movement or #subsidence, indicated by the red points Over time, it is important to monitor legacy #mining sites for movement to assess and prevent any developing #hazards. Contact our InSAR specialists to learn more, email us at contact@satsense.com.
