How can tunnelling experts reduce carbon emissions and enhance sustainability? Designing and building critical infrastructure is key to achieving net zero, but it takes smart, innovative solutions and strong industry collaboration to get there. In Copenhagen, our joint venture with COWI is aiming to cut the carbon footprint of the new metro line by 50% compared to existing routes. Discover more about this initiative in the latest New Civil Engineer article, featuring insights from Arup Fellow Alison Norrish: https://lnkd.in/dMm6AiPY #Sustainability #CarbonReduction #NetZero #Tunnelling #Innovation

net zero is a hoax, apart from that it will never happen in any humans life time ...despite green washing countries like the UK's best efforts, the numbers are thousands to 1 against....just crack on and enjoy your lives but if you really must need to check the numbers here are a few quick calcs..... The average usage of CO2 per person on the planet is 4.8 metric tons per annum - fabulous number - there are 8 billion people on the planet! that is 4.8 x 8 = 38.4 billion tons of harmless CO2 used / produced each year as a result of humans (and all animals use/produce CO2, I digress) multiple that figure by at least 75 for insects (it is estimated that there is the weight of at least 75 humans times the world population in terms of insects on the planet...and all other species? ....beyond comprehension....but safe to assume a low ball estimate of a factor of 100 so that is 38.4 x 75 + 38.4 x 100 = 6,720 billion tons of CO2 produced annually ...net zero is a complete joke and will never happen unless an asteroid hits the planet that will result in a mass extinction event. (And Arup is one of the highest per capita EMPLOYEE producers of harmless CO2 outside of oil companies on the planet - reinforced concrete and steel design)
