"The key to performance?" I was lucky enough to attend the 14th Monaco Historic Grand Prix last weekend with my eldest son. For someone of my vintage, it was great to see the cars that I remembered as a kid when I first started watching F1 and I had most of them as Scalextric models too (if anyone remembers car driving toys pre PlayStation/Xbox) However, the one thing that struck me over the weekend was how some of the cars that were truly uncompetitive in their heyday were incredibly competitive on the historic circuit. You have to believe that not a lot has changed with the cars themselves. Most of them (apart from safety tweaks) would be pretty much the same spec as they were back in the day. So what was the difference? Put quite simply, the power of the Team! The people driving, managing, maintaining, repairing, transporting and tweaking the cars are doing so in a way that is collaborative with clear targets in mind. I would also be so bold as to say they have tons of ambition and desire too and the Culture they have created within their work environments is extremely positive! To put it in an IT context, I worked in 2 different companies that were of a comparable size and had almost identical IT infrastructure. However in one of them the creation of a positive Culture was actively managed and encouraged. Leaders were encouraged to focus on Culture and this drove productivity upwards and customer satisfaction was in the high 90's. In the other one the creation of a positive Culture was totally ignored. Leaders were given impossible goals and no support, and and this drove productivity down and customer satisfaction was in the low 70's. But remember, the technical environments were almost identical - the only things different were the people running them. So take a leaf out of the historic racers book. Cultivate a positive culture and you'll start winning (maybe sooner than you think!) Given that Culture drives how work gets done, it's a no brainer really. It has already been #3months since I had the chance to onboard at AUDI AG, after 15 years at Audi on NSC / Retail level. #3lessons #LLX of listening, learning and exchange. It has certainly been most endearing yet challenging time – and for 3 main reasons. #1 Human Centricity – listening on Top Management Encouragement I have been delighted to experience how deep, and how strong, the Top Management is focused on Customer Care. Not only for future-proofed interaction in a fast-transforming industry, but also for nowadays. So the lesson is : if you have the chance of gaining this focus – be up to the challenge. Be even more settled and agile to explain, to highlight and for sure to deliver. #2 Teamwork – learning & understanding every standpoint Customer Care is a subtle yet critical subject. There is no easy answer, or sole responsible. Customer Care is a Mission which requires the ability to elucidate the question, to converge the energies as well as the talent to increase Customer’s trust. Like for the national football team, every kind of people has a good idea on how to better the care. A lot of interesting ideas are swirling. The are just rarely compatible which each other’s. So the listening curve has been to embrace not only the very warm welcome in the organization, also the critics (which are always a proof of generosity). Understand every standpoint, and yet integrating the own conviction – for the better big picture. #3 Thinking Out of The Box – exchanging the own expertise When you had a large an lasting expertise, you feel obliged to contribute. Based on resolution with Customers (Private, VIP, Key Account), Retail Partners, Customer Care Providers (Managers, Supervisors, Agents), NSCs, European Dealer Council Members and OEM, there is sufficient material. I need to thank Karsten Freischem for choosing me as a senior but unconventional expert, as well for guiding me. Thanks also to Yvonne Laga especially for the instinctive and easy going pairing between pur respective coordination fields. Last but not least, thanks also to Hubert Link for your warm welcome and for entrusting me exciting tasks ! These are challenging times. The competition is fierce, but it still betters the breed. No one has the absolute upper hand, nor even the all-perfect-product. I think consumers does not expect absolute perfection anymore.
